When you find something cool, buy the entire bolt.

I've helped people like you move before. You all are as bad as people with libraries or game collections.

^_^

Hahahaha!

The fabric collection is actually not that bad, it all fits into one small room. The books, on the other hand are taking over the house, but there are two of us collecting those. Yes, you'd hate to help us move.

Buy the whole bolt. Because costumes take more fabric than you think they do, and if you try and go back for more it will be gone.

I've done some costuming (and have my own small store of fabric, of course) and lived in SCA households. And I collect books and games.

I know whereof we speak.  ^_^

I can't wait till I have a house big enough to accommodate a whole room of fabric. That would be fantastic. I wonder if hubby would let me have that much. Probably would, as long as I made stuff from it...

Anyway, I figure if I get one of those "slutty" Halloween costume patterns and use sapphire blue satin, I'll be halfway to a Rainbow Bright costume. The hardest part may be finding shiny red shoes I can afford. Cause the right shoes are important. /nod

A friend of mine found a "non-slutty" Rainbow Brite costume for halloween last year. I could ask her where she got it.

Find shoes that fit at the thrift store. Spray prime them and them paint them. Glitter is optional.

Does battletech count as retro sci-fi? I don't think I ever saw the time table clearly defined ..

It's not exactly pulp, but ReaperCon is pretty relaxed. I think you'll be fine.

Just remember the weapons policy before you show up with one of those ridiculous AFFS sabers. (Or, given your avatar, a Katana)  ::P:

Please abide by our weapons policy: Weapons may only be brought as part of a costume, and must follow these guidelines: All weapons must be non-working and peace bonded. No functioning projectile weapons – including water pistols, silly-string guns, and ping-pong pistols. Bladed weapons must be cased or sheathed and peace-bonded at all times. No clowning around or showing off in the common areas. Any weapon used in an offensive manner will be confiscated and rule #6 enforced. We expect you to use good judgment; with your help, we can continue to allow peace-bonded weapons - thanks!

One quick question. I think I know where it stands, but just to be on the safe side. A water pistol, so long as it is empty, should still be fine yes? I ask because as I mentioned everywhere has ray gun shaped water pistols at this time of year, and with a fairly basic paint scheme they can be made into quite nifty looking pulp sci fi zap guns. I know most of us aren't going to cause trouble, but I have a certain paranoia for not breaking rules.

That sounds like a raygun might be okay at the hip but not in the hand, yes?

And if a water pistol, it should remain empty at all times, yes? Or plugged up?

Plugged up, or bound to a holster seems safest to me.
