Any thoughts?

  • The brown hat with the dark brown leather band with the brass studs looks promising.
  • Do you have any shoes that match the hat band?
  • The knobbly cane in the "Shelf5" picture would be a thought. (Do they let you take a cane on an airplane?)
  • Add a white shirt, contrasting vest, dark trousers either a neckerchief or a string tie...and you could be one of the 'extras' that scurries off the street when the gunfighters are about to do their thing.

...not very exciting, I know.

For the theme: you really need boots. Leather shoes.

Well, I have leather boots, but I don't think my flight boots are terribly western looking...

Cover them up with a bit of dried mud, no one could tell what is underneath.

If I could make it, you can be guaranteed I'd be Dr McNinja...I've also been Michael Carpenter from Dresden Files...and if my friend would be there too, could be Cade Skywalker and Darth Talon.  I know, nothin' western...I could probably throw something together...my job sorta got my last pair of boots destroyed and the capital to invest in a nice set ain't there... Maybe my Steampunk Monster Hunter but the mask is kinda broken at the moment...

I'm thinking now I might combine the Islamic bits with some western bits.  The Kheffiyeh (but not Agal) under a cowboy hat, possibly with a bandana over the face as well.  Have to see about finding a nice long coat.  Steampunk nerf gun on one hip and the Afghani sword on the other, and the camel rifle on my back.

Yeah much as I'd like to, don't think I'll be dressing up.  I have nothing remotely western and I'm flying in from CT and would rather save my luggage space for minis.

I do have a Civil War saber and might be able to cobble together a cavalry trooper outfit ala She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, but I don't feel like checking it as it's authentic and would be prone to pilferage.

If I can come up with something then maybe.  Anyone have some simple ideas?

Cavalry trooper sans saber sounds fine.  The saber would just get in the way around the game/paint tables anyway.  Most hand held/carried weapons and accessories are more of a pain in the elf than they are worth at cons.  After the photo session you'll want to drop them so you can shop or play.

Any ladies with some good corset experience? It is quite possibly the most annoying thing to shop for. I'm an old waist trainer but haven't been in the practice for years. I most likely won't tight lace for the convention but loss of inches and shape would be nice. I'm supposed to be getting one from Merchentes butttttt it isn't the most reliable company in the world. Corset-Story.com has a great deal on a variety but also aren't fantastic. Who else am I missing? :O
