Chrome
I went and saw it last night and I think that "meh" pretty much sums it up. It wasn't horrible. It wasn't great. It wasn't really bad. It wasn't really good. I saw it with a friend who somehow has never watched the entire original, and he had pretty much the same conclusion. For those of you who are fans of the original (I am) the only thing really in common between the two movies is a guy named RoboCop, and OCP. Where the original was about over-the-top violence with a bit of humor, that mainly focused on RoboCop fighting crime, the new version is much more politically correct and the main story revolves around Alex Murphy and his family. Pretty much everything that made the original an epic-80's movie was removed. The "bad guys" - if you could even call them that - were pretty much just cardboard cut-outs that I neither loved nor hated. I'd give it a 3 out of 5, which in my book means I don't regret having seen it, but I won't bother watching it again. Unless you really want to see it right away, I'd wait for it to come out on DVD.
joshuaslater
I don't see remakes/reboots for that reason. If enough of my friends tell me "it's even better than the original" then I might, but that's not happened yet.
FaekiasDracon
did it still stand as a Jesus allegory? I saw the first one at around 8 or so and didn't realize the connotations till re-watching it as an adult on TV.
Girot
I am a huuuuge fan of the originals and I absolutely loved it. The 80's setting, world climate, and aesthetics are best left in the 80's. I've come to appreciate that when these reboots get written the writers have to take into account what's going on in OUR world and then blend that into the story to make it easier to identify with. Iron Man was a pretty good example of this, but nobody seemed to care. Fanboy gushing aside I didn't really appreciate the blatant political message at the very end. Not that I disagreed with what was said, BUT, I paid $7 to see a cyborg cop frack some badguys up. Not politics. If you wanna talk about horrible reboots? TOTAL RECALL was absolute crap. The original was a piece of fiction that was so bad I had to go wipe after watching it. BUT it was one of my all time favorite Schwarzenegger movies so it got (and still has) a free pass. That being said there was still no way to rewrite it, keep the original plot, and make it even remotely believable. It had some redeeming qualities, but not enough to get me to buy a copy.
Magnus Mercury
What, no stop-motion dinosaurs in car commercials?! The trailers looked promising; I was hoping this would be a good reboot. I find that I prefer older movies over most current releases, which I sincerely hope is not a sign that I'm just getting old.
buglips*the*goblin
0/10 - would not buy for a dollar.
Loim
I neither loved nor hated the first RoboCop. RoboCop 2 was about the same for me. Never saw 3. I will catch this one when it hits Netflix.
wildbill
As soon as I saw they gave this version a PG13 rating, I knew that they were not being true to the original film. I have not seen the new one, nor do I ever plan on it unless I am trapped on a plane. To me, toning the movie down to Robocop fighting almost exclusively other robots with comic book-esque violence instead of the graphic violence of the original just meant they wanted to cater to the 13 year olds, not the adults. Pass. Now, one remake/reboot (not sure which category it falls into) was the movie Dredd from 2012. Now that movie was fantastic when compared to the Stallone Judge Dredd from the '90s. I own Dredd on Blu-Ray and have watched it countless times. It is awesome.

Robot violence is just as good as people violence in my book. Dredd was outstanding.
sethohman
I agree on Dredd. I liked the original, but the latest was awesome.
Suden
I just came from this and I thought it was great. It was very different from the original, but very well made. I didn't find the PG13 hurt the film, just toned down the swearing. There was plenty of violence, and real people were killed, occasionally graphically. I also thought the villains were quite believable, not cartoon mustache twirlers and instead didn't even really seem that villainous for most of the movie. Their decisions flowed from the events of the film, they were understandable. Even the over the top right wing parody by Samuel Jackson rang true rather than just seeming like a one note caricature. Summer blockbusters aren't released in February, I enjoyed it for what it was, a solid action flick with a good bit of humor, and no real obvious plot holes. And it has a great cast, featuring a team up with Batman and Commisioner Gordon. And then there was this: http://www.omnicorp.com/products/ed-209.php

estrus
I got a free ticket when I bought the original Robocop Bluray. That's the only way I'd see this. Well that and I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!
pcktlnt
Yea, they changed the movie. In the original movie, I watched it when I was young, and the scene involving Alex Murphy and the gang shooting still horrifies and gives me bumps till this day. They gave him a taser and made the ed-209 work completely. BOooo.
