First off, I want to thank you for offering onsite food selections.  I think it could be a great service, and while it won't please everyone, it will allow a quick lunch for those who want to maximize their convention experience.

However (and you just KNEW it was coming!), the selections are more fru-fru than I have experienced at a gaming convention.

  • Maple Mustard Grilled Sliced Chicken Breast in a Crispy Butter Crescent with Cucumber Mayo and Sprouts
  • Jack Daniels Virginia Glazed Ham on a Sourdough Bun with a Spicy Mustard, Aged Cheddar, and Crisp Lettuce

Seriously?  As these are box lunches, I am assuming they will be pre-made and served "cold", not made to order on the spot.

What ever happened to an Italian Sub, Turkey Sub, Ham and Cheese, etc.?  I realize the hotel kitchen is making these, and maybe I am in the minority, only time will tell, but these are more "business" lunches than con lunches.

Or maybe I am just off in my experiences and expectations.... do tell.

The option to leave the show to eat has always existed.  Reaper bringing Sonic to the factory was a convenience for the attendees.

The venue (hotel) has a no outside food permitted policy, so bringing in, for example, Sonic as a food vendor wasn't possible.

When coordinating with the venue's food services team (catering department), there were options on what the venue was willing to provide, and costs associated with those options.

I am confident that Reaper weighed each option and the associated costs in order to keep things as economical for the attendee as possible.

Pizza, Hot Dogs, Cold Cut Subs are not standard items on a venue's catering menu and the cost to bring in such items (make a change to the menu) would probably have made a single slice of pizza or a simple hot dog cost more than the average attendee would prefer to pay.

The venue was chosen in part for the location to alternative food options.  There are a number of alternative food choices with a variety of price points in the same general area.  If the box lunch option is not to your liking, don't take advantage of it.

Reaper has to try different ideas and see how they go.  If, after the show, this one proves to be not a success, then they'll change it up for next year.

As an attendee, you should be able to order pizza and have it delivered.  Reaper, as the one renting the facilities, has no such option.  I've run into food like this at two places recently here.  One was an Irish Pub and the other a fancier shmancier restaurant.  I'm with you on this.  Seems like places just think they have to go over the top gourmet on everything now..

As a hotel guest, yes, you should be able to order food to have it delivered.

The food & lodging page of the ReaperCon site states "No Outside Food or Drink Permitted Inside Convention Areas" so sitting at a game table with your pizza would be disallowed.  Enjoying your pizza in your room would be a non-issue.

This is what happens when marketing majors are allowed to describe food... <_<  ...(and note to any marketing majors that might be reading it's croissant not crescent.)**

**Edited to help the Marketing Major(s) with their spelling.

Going to miss the ole Sonic crew :(

+1

If this is the same hotel as last year I can vouch for their food.  Breakfast was pretty typical for a hotel but dinner was darn good.  I did the Sonic thing for lunch so I can't help you there.  There are a bunch of restaurants within the same parking zone(?) as the hotel.  I plan on hitting up the BBQ place this time.

The option to go offsite exists, and is presented on the website, along with a listing of all food places within 1 mile of the hotel.  There is no obligation on your part to eat the offerings listed, they are offered as a convenience so you do not have to leave the site for every meal.

As stated, no outside food or drink may be brought into the convention area, but this does not preclude you from eating outside food or drink outside of the convention areas or in your room.

Ah.  Well then I have no idea what to expect.  But then that's the point of an adventure!  ::D:
