Well, the sandwiches don't sound "over the top" to me.  Almost any place that serves lunch to the 9-5 office crowd has similar sounding menu items.  I'm glad we're getting the option for convenient, "real" food.  I appreciated the thought behind bringing Sonic in, but a lot of us just can't eat that crap.

Any idea what time of the day the box lunches are available, and also are we allowed to bring them right into class?

I can find out the times - the hotel restaurant services crew have not been exceptionally communicative.

You will be allowed to bring food purchased on-site to convention spaces, and this does include classrooms.  We ask only that you be respectful and not eat messily or noisily, and that a sammich in your hands limits your ability to do hands-on work.

Reaper has to try different ideas and see how they go.  If, after the show, this one proves to be not a success, then they'll change it up for next year.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. I always appreciated everything Mike and the crew from Sonic did to a) bring food to the warehouse, and b) improve the options and quality of the offerings from year to year. However, this new location is very convenient to a lot of excellent options for food (and if you really need that Sonic fix, there is one less than 2 miles away, on the other side of the mall), while still offering onsite options for those that just can't get away from their classes/games long enough to grab something else.

I, for one, welcome our new sandwich-catering overlords...

Thanks.  Yeah the class comes first just making sure if the food pick up turns out to be when I'm hauling it to a class I'm good to bring it in.  If it came to that I would eat it later in the case of a hands on.  This is my first con so I'm way more concerned about getting some cool classes than a sammich.

Also thank you so much for being all over the boards today.  It makes a big difference to be able to get questions answered so quickly.  You guys and girls at Reaper are awesome.

If this is the same hotel as last year I can vouch for their food.  Breakfast was pretty typical for a hotel but dinner was darn good.  I did the Sonic thing for lunch so I can't help you there.  There are a bunch of restaurants within the same parking zone(?) as the hotel.  I plan on hitting up the BBQ place this time.

it is not the same hotel as last year.

Thanks for clarifying that Bryan. @Girot, you were not alone in thinking it was at the same hotel as last year.

By the by, there have been research studies that indicate people think that food is tastier if the food has longer and more evocative names on the menu.  So, most people do find "Maple Mustard Grilled Sliced Chicken Breast in a Crispy Butter Crescent with Cucumber Mayo and Sprouts" to be tastier than "chicken sandwich" even if it's the exact same sandwich.

That study (and other very interesting ones) are recounted in a book called Mindless Eating.

Im really looking forward to a two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun sandwich!

Breakfast was okay last year so I'm skipping the lunches option. Looking at Google maps I see a bunch of eats within walking distance or I can always hitch a ride with someone going out. Kinda miss not seeing Sonic Mike & the gang.

Anything has to be better than what passes for pizza at the Indianapolis convention center. :zombie:

I signed up for a sandwich on Friday, so I can hustle straight from my game to a class without leaving for food. If it works out well, I can always take more advantage of it next year! (or, the opposite, as case may be.)
