Armorcast Steam Buddha

I assembled and painted this as a 21st wedding anniversary gift for my husband.
 
Here's a scale shot with Reaper's 03135: B'thuhl, Bathalian Pirate.  It's pretty big.

 

It came with a resin head and body, separate hands, a puff of "steam" (which I left out as too difficult for me to pin), and the large smokestack; and metal ears, the small smokestack, and the whistle.

 

 

 

This graffiti says "Om mani padme hum" in Sanskrit:

 

I used just two metallic colors, a pure silver and a pure gold, layered with a lot of colors to suggest reflections, grime, rust, and patinas.  The base is painted a sort of orchid purple, and those are reflections of it painted on the hands.

 

 

There is a deluxe version of this figure with a steampunk yin-yang "lotus", but I got the basic version and made my own base from a sort of wooden doily from the craft store which resembled both a lotus and a gear.

I have so few comments, would compliments be okay instead? Beautiful work! I find it interesting that as Buddha is meditating, his gauges are up in the red... maybe that's a reflection of the amount of calm he's producing?

The patina is beautiful, I really thought it was a large, heavy piece when I first saw it.

Wow- you've duplicated my absolute favorite raku ceramic glaze effects in paint!!!  My new hero!  Gorgeous use of glazing on the metal paint- it really captures the reflection effect, so varied and interesting... the green and the whitish creamy purple are my favorite bits.  I would have sworn some of the gold was actually a copper metallic.  The contrast you got on the back of the smokestack is really awesome!

 

Hubby will love it, I'm sure.      Happy Anniversary!  That's a special number!

I've admired that Armorcast piece for a long time now. The only reason I never bought one was just thinking of a color scheme for the Beasty was utterly intimidating. Your colors are not just BEAUTIFUL; they are liberating; & your brushwork is SUPERB...VERY WELL DONE!
