Obviously some people feel like its a good thing.  I don't get but eh, different stroke for different folks.  For me solitaire and such things are more activities than actual games.  Particularly since in many permutations they are often unwinnable depending on the randomization of the cards, so they aren't so much a thought problem as they are something to occupy your hands and time.  I just can't see myself sitting down to an evening of playing a board game by myself.  The kinetic nature of it and the way most games invite interaction makes it pretty hard for me to get excited about it.  I had no idea solo play was so popular though.  I always feel like no one should have to make excuses for what they like so if they like solo play than go for it.  Just no interest here.

Interesting. I didn't realize I should stop painting and playing Zombicide by myself because I don't have a gaming group and instead I should play Skyrim.

It's fine that you may not care for playing board games solo, but I'm more than weary of being marginalized for it.

I don't mind if games don't support solo play, I just won't buy them :) If it does support it, I'm interested, I bought Zombicide almost entirely because it supports solo play (and is still a lot of fun solo, beats solitaire!).

As I stated, it's all personal preference. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was marginalizing anything or trying to offend anyone with my opinion on solo play as that's all it is an opinion on what board games mean to me and seeing the vast majority of them designed for more than one person - plus a lot of language is unspoken so you can't really interpret everything from text and that can make for misunderstandings. Solo games (other than console games) do not appeal to me in the least bit, but I do love playing board games with a group as it's a fun activity to do with friends. Someone could give me a solo board game as a gift and I'd quietly return it to the store/website, but if someone gave me materials for my pathfinder game I'd definitely use them. As far as others enjoying solo games (ala Zombiecide) if that's what is fun to you to play then I sincerely hope you have fun and enjoy the experience.

My only bit of contention is when people who really enjoy and play solo games get upset if a group-designed game only has rules for the group of 2+ players, like they are offended by the designers for not thinking about solo players, again if they do add the variant rules then that's just a bonus, but it shouldn't be expected.

My 2 coppers and I'm going to go back to the painting and random threads.

It sounds like in this case that the disappointment is more that the designers mentioned they had been working on solo rules, and then stopped and won't be providing them, rather than it being the case that solo fans are expecting that every game should come with solo rules.

Games are a big social hobby for me and I do end up rarely playing solo, but there have been times in my life where I either had friends that didn't like games or people who had such massive scheduling problems that organizing games was a real challenge, or where I lived like a hermit. There have also been times where I used the solo variant rules of a game to learn it well enough to teach it to others.

I play Zombicide solo as well. I enjoy and it is a good way to learn a games rules better to help the inexperienced gamers that i can get to play at times (any chance we will ever get the Sedition Wars Solo play rules :-( ) heck i used to play Warhammer and Rogue Trader by myself to learn the rules....although that seemed a tad sadistic ;-)

On topic...that crazy bunny looks sweet.

Not sure if I can swing this, especially with shipping likely to be crazy high, but I really like the look of the figures. And I've been planning to surprise my group with a one-off game using all chibi miniatures and these would give me a few more options...

On the solo thing though, if somebody wouldn't buy a game without solo rules but would buy a game with solo rules then that's useful information to have isn't it? Even if making those rules is a long shot. Obviously there's a difference between asking for and demanding, but if I was a game designer I'd certainly be interested in just how much demand there was for solo options.

For me I quite like solo options because it's a good way to check out how the rules work before I get the rest of the gaming group playing the game. Plus I like to multi task so if I'm watching TV or something I like to have something else to do at the same time. Be that playing with my iPad, computer, reading, or playing a board game at the table.

Why oh why can't more of these boardgames make the minis available separately??

I don't need any more games but the altar of unpainted minis needs to be fed regularly.

Looks like Tokaido has a $45 level that has 15+ not-quite-chibi minis, plus other miniatures and bling.

Solo would be great for times you just can't get the gang together. Granted that takes allot of the fun out of it.

Seriously thought about joining this one but I'm on the fence about getting SDE this year + a few of expansions. 100 would go a long way in getting those, not to mention 100 extra bucks in my pocket for RCON this year.

Damn, the minis look spectacular in that vid.

I may have to work out some way to afford pledging to both this kickstarter and the upcoming SDE one.

Bit late to the conversation, but for me personally, having a solo play option is a nice bonus as I'd never get to play the game otherwise (I lack friends with an interest in tabletop gaming), but as long as I get some nice minis to paint I'm happy.

I really want to back this game, as I really love the cute, chibi style they're using. But by god, some of the breasts on the female characters are insane. I mean, SDE had a little bit in that department, too, but it never really got out of hand. I don't know, maybe I'm just not the target audience for a game like that.

Several backers are worried about how simple the mobs are - the game play looks way too easy and the enemies are more like traps than enemies.

I really hate the rules for this game and I don't know if I like the minis enough to still buy it.

I dont know if it would have funded had they led with the gameplay video instead of the rabbid CMoN fandom.

Not all of the females are over the top sexualized, the rogue and female knight look acceptable in my opinion.
