So, I've never encountered this game before, but it looks pretty neat. Lots of goodies - 66 minis once we hit 250K, fifty metal "coin" tokens, an art book, a musical track, and a bunch of other gubbins. The stretch goal inclusive set, upon reaching 250K, is going to have:

16 Unpainted 30mm Character Minis

16 Prepainted 30mm Character Minis

16 Character Tiles

16 Unpainted 30mm Character Alts

16 Prepainted 30mm Character Alts

16 Character Tile Alts

1 Unpainted 30mm "Eriku" Mini

1 Prepainted 30mm "Eriku" Mini

1 "Eriku" Tile

2 Game Boards

172 Cards (for both TOKAIDO and the Crossroads Expansion)

4 Limited Edition "Encounters" Cards

5 Plastic "Scoring Token" Minis

50 Metal Coins

1 Coin Bag

1 Wooden Die

a 25-track Soundtrack of traditional music to play to

and the Digital Art Book

I'm going to hop in just based on the minis and the coins; the game is really just a bonus for me. And I love the soundtrack - they have a sample up, and it's great. I really like that they're adding both prepaints and unpainted figures, too; that way I'll have a complete set for the game as soon as I get it, and some others to paint at my leisure.

All in all, if this does arrive in November, I'll probably not open it until Christmas so I can play it with my aunts and uncles. It seems like a good game for that sort of thing. Have any of you guys played it?

I've played this game. Even in the original less fancy version it is a very pretty game. It's got elements of strategy, but it's not highly competitive or complex, it's more of an interesting experience in collecting. I think it is well-suited to play with people who are not big game players or who might like games but don't like really competitive ones. (Which is not to say it's all namby pamby, but the way you're 'mean' to people is by taking a space they might want, not by eliminating their forces or other direct competition type things.) I think it is also well suited as a game to play in more relaxed circumstances - at the end of a long game session, winding down after work with a spouse, stuff like that.

Also of note for miniature fans is that there is a pledge level just for the main figures, which also includes the coins and soundtrack. However, it does not include stretch goals, so as the bonus figures unlock, I don't think they're added to this.

The Samurai level includes all the stretch goals. Also they've clarified that Samurai pledges will receive one painted set of the figures and one unpainted, so one to play with, and one to paint as fancy as you'd like. (Note that a number of stretch goals have to unlock to get prepainted versions of all the figures, read through the campaign info for all the details.)

So that's 70 mini's -- 32 prepainted -- for $115 at the $250K level?

That's pretty darn good. Shipping fees are look good for some internationals.

Ooo... metal coins! :D

EDIT: Anyone supporters here on Dakka Dakka or HeroScapers.com? DD might be interested in the mini's, and HS would be interested in the prepaints.

They explained in the FAQ there will be an option to add the other minis later.

I had just learned that they revised their decision to the either painted or unpainted for Samurai and not both, and thought I had better come on to retract my previous statement so as not to lead anyone astray, but I see that ced1106 already broke the bad news. I'm pretty bummed about this, and I imagine it was a draw for more than just a few people. Not sure why other people had to complain about it, when they could easily have sold the extras to people with the basic version of the game or miniature fans. Once they have the moulds, the cost for the plastic is pretty minimal. I'm hoping they will consider an option to add-on for an unpainted set, but I have to admit it makes the cost of Samurai harder to justify for me personally. I don't think we'll pull our pledge, I will just feel more guilty about the extravagance. :-<

It does look pretty. If I have a chance to watch some gameplay video, I might be tempted... I sort of hope I don't have any time to watch some gameplay video as I'm all filled up on temptation.

EDIT: After looking at this more, I may shift my KS money from Quest for Arcadia over to this game. The game looks like it might be a bit more solid. And, if another game comes along before this one ends, I can shift the money there and if I keep doing that I can make this one ~$100 chunk of cash last all year!
