Uglunuk, Half-Giant Warrior (God-King Kelkar)

Recommended Posts

Very nice!   Only criticism that comes to mind is quite minor.  The texture on the seat and base of the throne as opposed to the back.. the difference does tend to, to my eyes, make it look more like two pieces instead of a cohesive whole.     Overall though, wonderful piece.

Uglunuk! Dude! Sit back down! I'm just looking for the sandwich bar....

Great job! I really enjoy looking at these custom jobs. One day I'll try to start customizing, but I'm just trying to get the basics down for now. I'm going to have to check out the WIP on this one....

He looks ready to defend his throne. Looks really good. I like the skulls. They have a don't mess with this guy look.

Wow, awesome! We have a king in Sweden, but he is nowhere near as imposing as this guy. This is the image royalty need to be getting out there.

Other than some mold lines and chunky surfaces this is incredible. I love how the base is cool neutral colors and he is nice warm colors. It has movement and drama.

Thanks everyone he was a lot of fun to work on. We'll just call the mold lines "scarring from battle" because I really didn't see them until after I had applied paint and by that time I was not going back with the deadline looming so close to get him done for the contest. The throne itself was challenging since I had to basically build it up from scratch with only the back of the throne being a casted piece from reaper so I used some of my new molding paste and pumice to give it some texture and the look of stone. ^_^

It's always great when a plan or concept comes together and can be seen/felt by others, that's a very nice compliment  tbroadwater, I appreciate it. ::):

I agree.  I don't know if it was intentional, but it is nice to have the cooler tones in the axe and armor that refer back to the colors on the throne.  Ties it together nicely.

If one wants practice at painting muscles, this is the mini to get.  I'm not sure if it's the imagery, but I prefer a darker shading for muscles to make them really pop.  But that's just my preference, not an error on your part.  You actually did a very good job on them.  A (very slight) bit of bright edging on the armor might have made it gleam a little.  But I like the cold tone of the armor.  A blue-steel feel to it.  I like the purple on the throne.  It's also funny that this ultimate badass has a cushion on his seat.  "Hey, just because we are a badass doesn't mean we want a sore butt."

Interesting. I didn't know that the forum autocorrected certain words like the one that was originally at the end of that last sentence.

Ha! I missed that the first time around. All tough guys need a proper regal purple cushion on their thrones.  ::):

Painted the throne of my Dark elf Queen....
Made it so that throne and Queen can be seperated....
Will probably paint a (standing) mini similar to the queen to have a "sitting and standing" version.

Warning, not everything is what it seems... "Care! don't activate any traps..." *a feint mechanical ticking&clicking sound on the background* "Wait, did that leg just move?"

So now that we know who won the Game of Thrones and ended up sitting down...

Dragoth the Defiler on Throne. Just look at the strength of that undead overlord! Holding his sword casually in the air with his arm outstretched, Darth Vader-style!
This mini is from the second Bones kickstarter core set. I based it on a 50mm round lipped and put some black flock around it. Looks good!
This one can also do double duty as a Charnel Throne scenery item for my Age of Sigmar Flesh Eater Courts Army.
The sword simply would not stay glued to the skull I placed the tip at. That is the power of Bones plastic memory for you. I should have heat treated the thing to position it correctly before painting. Oh well. No matter.
Reaper makes a metal version of this that presumably predates the Bones 2 kickstarter, and that has a vampire's head instead of a skeleton's skull. I wonder why they changed it to a skull for the Bones version?

"Ah! We meet again! And I see your sword is as big as mine!"

I've had plans to paint this for a long time, wanted to get it done before the bones 4 dark elf throne piece overshadows it.

Proof-of-life post. Terrible paint job on a great mini, but it's done. Thanks for witnessing.

This one took awhile, since I basically had to paint the throne all over again when I decided to try the granite look. My first attempt, got a little runny but practice makes perfect.
