Sorscha Kratikoff

This is a mini that I painted up for a charity event a little while ago.  She makes me want to paint more Khadorans in this color scheme (maybe I'll do one of the Butchers for the P3 grandmasters sometime).

VERY NICELY DONE! I think it's the rosy glow of her cheeks that make the mini for moi...very appropriate flesh tones for a cold climate.

Magenta! That´s the one! I was so close to calling the color purple/pink/red thing...
(I know that if I am serious about the hobbie, I´ll have to know more than 16 colors...)

She is Sorscha Kratikoff 2010 from Warmachine.  You can get her in plastic in the Khador warmachine starter box (I think she's also in the 2 player box) or you can get her in metal from Privateer Press' online store.

Thanks.  I learned a new trick from Zach Lanier before I painted her up- the cheeks are highlighted in alternating warm and blue tones.  The effect is subtle, but I really like how it turned out.

That's P3 Sanguine highlight, shaded with blue.  I can't remember exactly what I used to highlight it, but I would suspect that it was a bone color (I like to shade with cool and highlight with warm, or vice versa).

Sorscha! Bleah. (says the legion player who is annoyed seeing Sorscha across the table...one of my most frequent opponents).

 

For all my feelings about the gamepiece, this mini is awesome. You should totally do Butcher like this, he'd look pretty epic!

 

Can you give more detail to the warm/cool highlighting process for her skin? I like the effect but I'm not visualising the process very well.

Well, I start out with a medium skin tone (I think it was P3 Midlund flesh on her, but it might have been Ryn flesh because she's so pale).  From there, I first shaded by mixing a red into the base color (probably skorne red) and then shaded again by mixing in a green (I don't remember which I used- it probably wasn't super dark on her, so something like traitor green or maybe even battledress green).

 

I then reclaimed the surface areas in the mid tone, then started highlighting up.  I first did a layer of highlighting that mixed in some Frostbite- a pale blue.  Her upper cheek became very cold looking (which contrasts nicely against the red shadows right next to it).  I then highlighted last by adding in some light ivory (P3 Menoth White highlight, I belive) and doing the very top highlights up to the warm ivory color.

I'm working on doing similar compositions with other colors.  Right now I've got a character who's wearing warm green armor and cold green cloth.  I think it's working well, too.

 

Reaper's clear brights help out a lot.
