Anachronite
Finally finished one of the figures from Learn to Paint Kit #2, Tsuko the Monk my mini #3. Will post the sorceress once I finish her... need more hours in the day! Critiques, comments, and suggestions are welcome! That's how we get better right? Thanks in advance!
Arkady
<tangent>I think one of the reasons many tabletop gamers (particularly historicals) stick to basically doing a black line instead of painting proper eyes is that while it looks wrong, it doesn't draw quite as much attention to that fact as do slightly too big (whites of the) eyes.</tangent> What's that got to do with him? Well, my impression is the white of the eyes extends a little too fard down onto what should really be cheeks, particularly for the right eye. It's something I struggled with for a long time, and didn't even realize until somebody pointed it out. And it's something that's fairly easy to avoid on tabletop quality paint jobs, because simply touching up below the eye in fleshtone is barely even noticeable on the finished fig. (Okay, using a tone slightly darker than the flesh tone for a very thin line is better... but harder to pull.) Of course, if you're happy with the eyes, just ignore me; and if you do feel there's room for improvement. I bet most on here struggled with that detail early on and somebody might have ideas that work better for you than mine.
Anachronite
yea your right, the white on the right eye is too far down. looks a little on the cheek in the photo but is really in the sculpted eye socket. He just has huge eyes scuplted. In person it looks like I just need to touch the outline around the white. I guess I was focusing on the pupils that I didn't like and missed touching up the eye. I was thinking the the pupil should be bigger but didn't want to flub it at the finish line. Guess I should try now though, because I definitely see your points. I will try to fix that! thank you! Brother Jim
Or you could paint a scar on the cheek to explain the eye being open like that.
malefactus
The eyes could be a bit narrower, HOWEVER, you did a SPLENDID job otherwise. The skin tones, the vivid red, wood & metallwork are OUTSTANDING. Keep up the FINE WORK...you have The Touch!
Darkmeer
Nicely done, reds are hard and tackling eyes is... more difficult by a measure. Skin tones and reds look great, and the hair looks nice as well.
AnneO'Leary
Your skin tones are excellent. They're dusky and have a natural look to them. You handled the reds beautifully as well. It is hard to fix eyes when the problem is in the sculpt itself. I've had figures with mold lines right through the eyes and some with bubbles. It's very frustrating.

RouterMike
Great job on these. I think your #4 definitely turned out better than mine, and I had (still have) all kinds of problems with the eyes. Keep up the good work.
