Bruunwald
These are the first terrain pieces I've been able to complete in quite some time. Alas, I have two jobs, and my terrain-fu is currently weak. I had to rush paint these today to have any hope of ever finishing them. I assembled them about a week ago (also in only a matter of a few hours). Anyway, enough excuses. The mini is a Copplestone, representing my son's longtime modern game character, Corporal Davies (recently promoted from Private). He's seen many a terrain in his day. malefactus
Those are TERRIFIC LOOKING pieces. The composition, modeling, scenic details, & especially the brushwork are OUTSTANDING...the rust effect is SPLENDID! Your work hasn't suffered from the need to speed at all. VERY WELL DONE! CONGRATULATIONS on the promotion, Davies!

Tallghost
Man That rust looks good. I'm not very good at doing rust, and I'm always impressed when people pull it off well. Did you use pigment for that? Also, love the little touches, like the "giant" bolt laying on the ground.

I haven't been able to stock up on pigments yet, so I did that rust with a lot of stippling. First, I used liquid greenstuff to stipple the areas I knew would get more rust (you can also use white glue and baby powder, or a very light amount of spackle). Then, after I base coated a metal color, I glazed with P3 Bloodstone, then painted up the heavier areas with increasing gradients of orange, beginning with an orange-brown. After that, I went back to the original metallic color and very, very lightly stippled that wherever the glazes and oranges looked unnatural.
Moderator Darsc Zacal Posted April 22, 2014 Moderator Share Posted April 22, 2014 That's a great idea for some simple yet very useful terrain. Very nice paintjob on those pieces too.
catdancer
Hi Bruunwald; Very nice work on the pipes (both sets look great). Seeing these, brings back memories of when I was doing my wharves and did a pipe stack in the outside junk area...Your pieces make some great terrain and/or cover places. As far as rust goes...have you ever tried using pastel chalk sticks? Shave the stick to create fine powder and apply the powder with your brush...works great and looks fantastic! ub3r_n3rd
Wow, these look great! You definitely don't have weak terrain-fu, the fu is strong in this one.

Jonnlink
where did you get those black ribbed pipes? I love what you've done with the pieces, and would love to see more!
