Popular Post DixonGrfx
My loot was similar to all the others. Awesome stuff! My story needs a little setup. I have dabbled a little bit in sculpting, not very good at it. When I tried to add flaming hair to a model, I failed miserably several times. To improve and learn some tips, take a class right? So I did. Julie Guthrie's class on sculpting dragons. Sweet! Amazing class! You know how everyone always says you should go chat up the artist at ReaperCon? Yeah,... do that. And here's why. I decided to visit with Mrs. Guthrie to ask for some tips on my flaming hair problem. She sculpted that super cool fire elemental from the first KS. Who better to ask. I told her about my trouble and showed her the model I was trying to modify. She then very generously offers to demonstrate sculpting fire on my model! I have to admit that it had never even crossed my mind. All I asked for was pointers. But who in their right mind would turn down that offer right?!?!?! Not me for sure. You know what she said??? "Are you sure it's ok? I don't want to ruin your figure." I was a bit dumbfounded.... I studiously watched her demonstration and listened to her tips. I plan on adding a spell effect conversion later. Heheheh. I joked with her that when I add my conversion I can claim we collaborated on a figure!!! The best part, it's for my kid. The conversion is one I have been failing on for a while. Now, it's epic! My kid was at the show so I got a pic with her, Mrs. Guthrie and the converted figure all together. But we don't post pics of our girls online. I got good loot, but this was my crown jewel.

My wife says that's like Van Gogh offering to give you pointers but hesitating at the thought of "ruining" your canvas.

CashWiley
Mah lewtz: Outside the standard stuff, I have some Bones from hands-on classes, a couple plinths someone was hawking (expect to see a lot of those soon, wallets were emptied), a hirst arts bookcase, a SCULPTED BASE (shock!) from Proctor's excellent basing class, the LE hobbit from Lamb's classes, a bunch of the new chronoscope (Frank Baum's hometown is just down the road), Tre's resin Oni for Reaper (he's the big one), poker tool, a couple extra cool Team Frog minis I swindled people out of (check them out, they're cool!), my ribbon pedigree (almost all painting and eating, heh) and a couple medals (!). MonkeySloth
What about the sketch? Tre's Oni is awesome and was an early release. Was surprised with the amount of new figs Reaper was doing in resin and while the Oni is large enough that I'm happy it is they had several human sized figures that will be resin on release too.

My wife says that's like Van Gogh offering to give you pointers but hesitating at the thought of "ruining" your canvas. I was sitting there sculpting and listening in when this happened and got a chuckle of my own out of it. Julie is one of the sweetest people I have ever met, and way too humble given her prestigious talent. I had a great time sitting next to her and Bob R. and learned loads from these two masters of the craft. Bob's stories are just downright hilarious and enlightening at the same time. I have to thank the Reaper powers that be once more for giving me that spot at the table. It was truly a gift of epic proportions. The best loot I got is inside my head, waiting to used on future projects. Andy Edited April 29, 2014 by TaleSpinner
CashWiley
What about the sketch? Wasn't sure if Tre would mind me posting it. I also commissioned a piece from Talin after we had dinner. Not cheap, but after flipping through her ridiculously amazing sketchbook ("Oh, I just draw stuff"), I just had to!

Not cheap, but after flipping through her ridiculously amazing sketchbook ("Oh, I just draw stuff"), I just had to! I saw a sketch of what looked like a female mind flayer that I would have loved but did not even want to ask on a price since I was pretty much tapped out by Sunday.
