I was even wildly speculating on what it would take to convince my wife that Texas could be an interesting overseas holiday location...

Well, don't take free lodging off the table. If it helps get you here I'd be more than willing to have a guest room set aside for you.

First, I'll agree with the names on the badges. I actually would like to go back to the pouch badges of the previous years. I could do without the ribbons.

Second, game table registrations... A lot of people are griping about squatters/full tables when they got to a game. I agree that it was a problem, but I'd actually rather see pre-registration go away, because our biggest issue wasn't squatters, but we hat a game that showed full on sunday not even play due to the table being packed up. I really liked having a schedule but could do without the idea that you might have to signup on day one of registration or get no game time. Which is exactly what I was worried about when I saw the seats available list.

RE: Auction, I didn't have a problem with pooling, but I'll agree that the low ticket items weren't great items. Iphone cases weren't really worth, especially when we looked at the auction table and saw 6 of each mouse pad, but the auction only gave away 3 of each.

So to sum up, Named badges, game schedule good, game seat registration bad, gamers and painters are apparently android or blackberry users :P

Otherwise it was a great year. I will say again here what I said to Bryan in person. The move to the hotel scared me into expecting a much more separated feel between con-goers and reaper. That was not the case. Thank you for not making it so.

See people next year (and reaper peeps sooner, i'm too close not to occasionally raid the store in person for stuff).

I can add a few things we are already looking at.  Next year we will run a later night Pathfinder Society option (provided GM's are available).  There was some confusion in the schedule of times but it will be corrected before next year, the biggest reason for this is PFS has to allow 5 hrs to a timeblock.  Reaper events are usually in 2 or 4 hour blocks, so problems occur.  The Pathfinder Society Rounds we ran went off better this year than ever before, we had a HQ table and a person manning it throughout the CON.  I can't speak for the other gaming.  I do agree that numbering the tables would have helped I'm sure we can do that next year.  If you have any further ideas please bring them forward.

Still can't think of too much to gripe about. I've been to way too many conventions that had legitimate things to gripe about.

1. Badges! The perfect solution -- in my opinion -- would have been two long white blanks on the badge, and some Sharpies at the Reg Desk. In one blank goes my real name, so the Reaper Police can check my ID and make sure I'm the authorized badge wearer...

...and another blank to write DOC BEDLAM in. Like others who have posted here, I remember faces great. I'm lousy with names. Time and time again, I found myself glancing at someone's badge to find out where I remembered them from... only to see the same badge everyone else was wearing, no help there. A great many people found Sharpies and WROTE on their badges, for specifically that reason. I'd think that simply putting two long white blanks on the badges for next year would solve the problem cold at no additional expense.

2. I miss SonicMike. I do understand the liability issues, and I understand that Reaper can't make the hotel behave, of course, but I miss the guy and his very reasonably priced food. Next year, I bring an ice chest full of soda and beer or whatever.

3. I LIKED the registration for games and such. I was disappointed when I showed up for one scheduled game and no other players did. Plainly, the Reaper Police need to round these people up and force them to report for the scheduled game!

Seriously,  though,  the registration system worked fine for me. I wouldn't mind seeing it next year for scheduling and organization purposes.

Doc, I think you ought to tuck a white slip in your hat with DOC on it, like an old-timey reporter with his press pass in his fedora.

I walk around for four days in a purple velvet top hat bigger than my head, and this isn't ENOUGH for him...

...only four days?

You mean, you don't wear that thing all the time? ::(:

Wul, sure.

I take it off in the shower.

Jason Wiebe, however, has given me an idea. I need to open the top and hinge it in the back, and then build some kind of little muppet that pops out and aims a shotgun at whoever's in front of me whenever I squeeze a switch in my pocket...

My only "complaint" is the registration line.  With as much space as they had, it should be easy to have one line for "registration and adding a class" and one line for registration only (and getting reaperbucks for costumes).  Having everyone stand in one line for everything made the line longer...

Also, everyone had to go to the desk to see what classes were available.  Having a flat screen TV showing the current class calendar would have made it easier to see from the back of the line that the class you wanted was full, freeing you up to choose another class or even get out of line entirely.

I had this problem with one game I had signed up for. Then Bryan offered 100 ReaperBucks to the first person that could kill him, so I jumped on that actions. Sadly I did not get the 100 ReaperBucks.

Nah. I liked Bryan too much to kill him for a hundred Reaperbucks, besides, his attention was completely taken up so often it would have been no challenge at all. Now Tre Manor, there is a worthy quarry

edit: because I should actually give some feedback as a first time con goer

A proper name place on the badges. Others have mentioned it, I mentioned the white section to Bryan on the first night of the con, and it seems I am not the only one to think and feel this way. Easy to read names and forum handles/nicknames would help cut the ice between people so much. Until this week I had never met any of the people personally, but I have developed something of a relationship over the past two years with many of them, and it would have been very nice to see TGP's or Minicanuck's badge and been able to go up to them and know who they are when I said hi, and they too would know who is saying hi. In other groups that could have led to some 'elitist' attitude towards non forumites, but with the reaper crowd I think it would actually encourage a number of us to actually talk to the ones we don't recognize either personally or from here.

Game sign up.  A table with sign up sheets for each game, so you could go, look and see "there's a Eat Reaper Bryan game starting at 3:00 with four slots open" that you can sign in on, without going through registration. Then the GM can grab the sheet and do an attendance check so no one gets knocked out that is signed up, unless they don't show on time. Add in numbered tables, and a sheet showing which tables have scheduled games at what times. That way if there is a table free for a half hour, someone can run a pickup game of any sort there

No I've never attended a Con of the game/comic/RPG/mini kinds - there are some here of varying sizes and styles (gaming, comics, anime etc) but I've never thought to look up when they are for the more model/RPG-oriented options and then actually attend one.  The rubbed-off excitement of this past weekend has me pondering it though.  I was even wildly speculating on what it would take to convince my wife that Texas could be an interesting overseas holiday location.....perhaps I should start with a local one and ease myself into it  ^_^

PAX this year is in Melbourne from 31 October - early November.  That should be fun!

ED: and you know if anyone is visiting Australia & comes to see Brisbane (QLD) let me know....

As far as the auction goes, I would not like to see it replaced by a raffle.  Auctions are fun.  Even if you don't win anything, it's fun to participate.  And I managed to snag a Bender basing kit with nothing more than the Reaperbucks I'd earned myself.  I even had a couple hundred or so left I tossed into someone else's pool, since I had to hit the road.

That said, a raffle after the auction could be a good way for remaining Reaperbucks to be reclaimed and give everyone a chance at something cool.

Another possibility might be having other things one can do with Reaperbucks.  Maybe using them for some of the games, or else small tidbits one can throw them in on.  That'd help keep the inflation down.

I'm considering putting my hat out next year, as I start singing.  Just a hundred Reaperbucks, and you can make this stop...

May I suggest, if Reaper chooses to make something like swag bags available again, that the number of bags, whatever it is, be divided among the days of the convention. If Saturday and Sunday are included among those days, people who work and commute will have a better chance at being able to order one, and if the times are announced ahead of time and staggered -- say, a release at 9PM one day and 9AM the next -- people who live in non-Euclidian time zones around the world will have a shot.
