Next on the to-do list was the fur, then the chainmail.

I'm a little worried the grey fur is too similar in color to the chainmail. I understand not going with a brown fur due to the leather armor (coming soon). I might try blonde in a future orc, but will withhold judgment until this guy is finished and I can see how it all ties together.

I finished up the orc tonight. All in all, I'm really happy with the results. Comparing this guy to the metal verson I have, the face details are a little soft. I made it difficult to pick out the teeth and eyes, but otherwise it is a good mini. It will certainly work for a gaming baddie. The sword isn't really that shiny, but it wasn't worth it to break out the lightbox and photo rig for a Bones LTPK mini.

Now that it is finished, I'm happy with the grey fur. I plan on picking up the rest of Tre's orcs in Bones and painting them up the same way I did this one. It will make for a nice, quick squad of orcs with assorted weaponry. But first, the knight in plate mail.

Nice. I need to get back on mine. Got the first couple steps done and have not painted since.  Felt bad for a couple weeks back when I started it and that got me out of the groove. :/  Your fur looks better than mine. I think the paint was too thick so need to figure out the best way to fix that when I get back on it.

One item of note was I did two washes on each area. The first wash was a general wash over the entire area. After it dried, I went back over the area with a more targeted wash to darken the shadows and "line" the area.

I never got the leather quite where I wanted it. After the second drybrush, I felt the highlights were too harsh, so I glazed them down with a midtone. However, that brought up the shadows, so I lost most of my contrast. I'll keep playing with it on some other Tre Bones orcs, but I'm content enough with this one to move on.

Alright, time to start work on the plate mail knight. As all good bones begin, this one has been filed, washed, boiled, and reshaped (had to bend the sword a little).

The directions on this guy are similar to the Orc Warrior. Rather than give a blow-by-blow, you are expected to follow a recipe of sorts. First up was the armor and fur padding beneath the shoulder pads. I haven't had great success using metallic paint directly on bones. So, I based all the metal areas in Shadowed Stone first (still visible on the sword, which is the last thing to be painted). The armor received two washes from me. The first was a general wash over everything; the second focused on the gaps between individual plates.

After taking the photos, I realized I forgot to paint the scale armor covering the hips.

Finished up the knight this morning. I opted against the "dagger" points on the belt and just made the whole thing leather. I also did about 3 washes on the leather, and didn't highlight it up to yellow as the instructions suggest. I wanted a browner leather than the example pictures.

This was a fun guy to paint, and definitely more challenging than the previous two. Overall I'm happy with the kit. The level of difficulty progressed steadily across the three minis. The instructions were clear, and easy to follow. It would have been nice to have a couple interim WIP pics for the Orc and Knight, but they weren't required. I next plan to tackle some similar Bones to further reinforce and practice the techniques learned here. I hope these WIPs help others who will be tackling this kit in the future.

Finally got the base coat done on figure 2 of the kit.  Shew. At this rate I may finish him in another year.

Ok ok I am hoping to work on him this week since my daughter has her own Vampire Box set from Reapercon and paints we did some painting tonight.  Out of all those minis she chose this one.

Ok I got the wash done tonight.  Did it while my daughter was painting and think I may have not made the wash running enough.  Could just be me but it felt a bit dark all over. Maybe the drybrushing will help that out.

I had to do a couple coats of the wash to get the shadows to where I wanted them. I think you're fine with the level of darkness right now. The first drybrush of the original basecoat should bring back the midtone.
