Swag Bags Back

Apparently when I set up my online banking for online banking my online banking wasn't set up for online banking.  I can see everything, I just can't do anything.  <_<

I blame robots.  Anyway, I discovered this too late to do anything until the bank opens tomorrow.  There are swag bags, I have money for swag bags, but I cannot purchase a swag bag.

This is like being trapped in one of those dreams where you can only run slow.

Poor Buglips. My mom is in the same boat. If they just hold until she wakes up tomorrow she will have a shiny swag bag winging towards her to squee over.

So funny that the majority of us are adults yet we squee over these little figures that some would classify as toys...

Wait!

I'm an adult?

Nobody informed me of that!

More seriously. Of course we do. it is a sign that we have never lost our glee in playing with toys. It also helps keep us young as we get doses of happiness so we never look grumpy or sad (at least not as).

That and I've been informed that as long as you have figures to paint you are immortal.

Life is to short not to squee over the things that make us happy.

Tell that to my wife!

Wait a minute. There was supposed to be a mousling in the bag? Wasn't one in mine. Though to be honest I'd probably end up trading/selling it. Regardless, [sarcasm]I DEMAND SATISFACTION!!![/sarcasm]

And, Hungerfan, having done so, are now vilified by many.

In particular, one "fan" has told me in no uncertain terms what a villain I am - and I quote "This mess is your fault ... you should step down".

That it was not clearly understood that the bags were always going to be limited in quantity is certainly something I could have worked harder to spread awareness.  From here, It appeared as painfully obvious to me as explaining that the paint inside the bag would be Reaper Paints.  I see now that it was not that obvious from out there, and all I can say is that next year, the policy will be simple, direct, and clear to all.

Out of curiosity, did you ascertain to which end of the political spectrum they lean?

I would love a Gen Con swag bag because I have never been and never will but it would be cool to have goodies from it.  How do I get one?

Wondering if Reaper wishes they had just said "Sorry, no bags this year if you are not attending."

Hearing the tonguelashing they got from some "fans" makes me understand some of the mood about swag bags during the con.  They still did great and took care of issues during the con with a smile and as quickly as possible.

The only way to get a Gencon Swag bag is to go to Gencon. Maybe someone can pick up an extra for you, but I imagine they keep a pretty tight reign on their Swag bags.

From what I remember, for GenCon swag bags, you have to turn your badge over to be marked (or there was a ticket last year)?  In any case, one per attendee.  And, for the most part, the swag bag is really not worth much, IMHO.  Sometimes, there have been a small starter version of a game or a box for CCG cards.  Or a "limited edition" d6.  But, really, I usually just throw almost everything away almost every time.

Ron

PS:  The "VIG" swag bags have games and such, but you're paying a hefty amount for those "free" games.

Yeah, this has been my experience with every convention that I have ever been to. Especially a convention geared towards fans and consumers. There have been two or three work related conventions where the swag bag was decent, but it was always things like pens, pads, a one or two gig flashdrive, and assorted nick nack crap that I end up throwing away. It's part of what makes ReaperCon so different and why EVERYONE wants to be involved in some way. Yeah. Hands down the coolest and most value laden swag bag I have ever had the privilege of taking home. THANK YOU REAPER AND VENDORS!!! As if everything else ReaperCon has to offer isn't incentive enough to come, here is this amazing bag of goodies for you if you make the trek to be there. Limited availability is part of the appeal.  :P   Some of the fans lamented that they couldn't get their hands on the banquet swag, but they got over it in time.

But, if your going to invite other to share in the goodies for a price, then (like ReaperBryan noted earlier) clear comunication is paramount. The rules need to be clear to avoid hurt feelings.

There will always be somebody upset about how things were handled, regardless of how it goes down.

I didn't have enough monies available for a swag bag this year, but I just got my 2 RC14 Sophies (and 2 shiverspike crossbows) in the mail.

Thanks Reaper!! !! 11 !!

I like the Lesser and Greater Swag bags idea. Feel free to change those names when you come up with something cooler.

Greater Swag Bags have all the cool stuff from both Reaper and all the other companies cool stuff, but cost more and are of limited availability. Basically like all the previous years swag bags.

Lesser Swag Bags have only Reaper specific stuff, but cost less and might not have limited availability.

Or, instead of the Lesser Swag Bag just put all the Reaper made stuff in the Online Store during the Con. I know for a fact if I would have been able to buy the RC14 Warlord mini I would have.

OMG, if they did that there would be an endless thread about favoritism and how the con attendees got better bags, and what? do you consider us "lesser" customers?, and so on.

Here's where I tell Bryan how to do his job: Announce online that priority is for con attendees. The LIMITED remainder of bags will be made available online AFTER the con. That or just don't make them available and offer only the con special minis and paints online during the con at retail cost (which is still more generous than most "con special" figures or items).

To me the bag is a nice bonus, though to be honest usually most of it is of little interest to me. (What am I going to do with a sock puppet?). I would still go if they stopped giving them out. I have missed several RCons for several reasons and have never lamented not getting the bag, though I did order a couple of the con Sophies. To be honest, I'm amazed (though not really surprised) by the attitude that those not attending feel that Reaper MUST offer the bag. That is entirely up to Reaper and they have been kind enough to do so over the years, but they are not obligated to do so or continue to do so.

That may not be completely fair. Their issue wasn't that Reaper must offer the bags. It was put forward by Reaper that the bags would be available for online order during the convention weekend. When they sold out in an hour people felt misled. The problem was mostly due to poor communication and simply underestimating the demand. The people who went off on the MODs were definitely out of line but they may have felt justified based on what they were told by Reaper.

We all need to remember that whenever anything goes wrong it's important to give them a chance to make things right. In the end, as always, Reaper made it right. I hope the forum members who were out of line try to make amends, too.

I'm not ashamed to like my dollies.

I had my Dwarven Forge Kickstarter gear all shipped to my folk's place. My mom asked what I got that was so heavy. She looked pretty confused when I said it was "Mike's Dungeon Dollhouse"

I showed her some pieces and she was suitably impressed. I did not, however, divulge how much I spent
