On a serious note, does anyone have a link to the mousling?

Guessing you mean the one in the Swag Bag.

Okay, I'm not a fan generally of those mouslings, but this little fella might change my mind!

Thanks Hungerfan. To me this looks more like a teddy koala bear than a mousling. Very cool mini

I'll throw my ballot in the bucket for the pre-order option that includes only the Reaper-controlled items. Extras from other companies are cool, but I totally understand that they can't be guaranteed in arbitrarily high volumes. Make sure that you cover the cost on any special-order items (like the bag itself), tack on a profit margin that makes it worth your while, and I'll be happy to pay. At least you can make sure that everyone is happy*, and any extra advertising Cool Thingsâ„¢ that are available become pure bonus.

*Yes, I understand that there will always be someone who isn't happy.

I would be great if Reaper occasionally ran "short run" paint sales. Like offering a spacial short run HD, MSP, metallic or liner color on a first come first serve basis every so often. It might even drum up sales during a slow month. A simple event like that would convince me to hit checkout when I would normally just let my cart ride. Even though I already have more paint than I use (so I don't buy much paint these days), special limited edition paints are too much fun to pass up. I was hesitant about paying $50 for the SWAG bag but the 3 exclusive paints made that decision much easier.

Reaper paints have a lot of sway over my debit card.

Yay swag bag paid for!

Thanks Reaper for being so awesome!

Now the long 2 week wait for it to arrive.

As to the contents, Kay13 gets the paints and I'm currently getting the rest (but there may be negotiation), the fact it will arrive with a slew of other Reaper stuff just makes it more exciting.

For the future I'd love to see a pre-order system, my chances of making Reapercon anytime soon are abysmal, even trying for GenCon in 2 years will be incredibly hard and require more long service being used and involves extensive familial negotiation.

I started saving up two weeks ago to be able to attend Reapercon next year (hopefully), and can definitely see where you would have even more issues than I, seeing as how it's just a 20+ hour drive for me and you would have to book a flight and probably spend a week in The States to make it worthwhile.

On the aspect of the pre-orders and other suppliers - wouldn't the pre-order option allow for Reaper to give the other suppliers a heads up as to how many of item X are needed?  I don't know if there is a cost to Reaper for this or if it is gratis from the supplier, but I suppose it could be handled (depending on demand) that if the total of pre-orders and attendees is over a certain range then there's a small additional cost on the bag (perhaps applicable after the first X items are purchased as preorders, or within Y days of the ReaperCon commencing).  Attendee bags would be exempt from that so it's just the online orders (where the overhead is understandable).  That might be a way to satisfy demand with the bags without having an extreme shortage and without being unduly expensive for Reaper or their nice suppliers.

The other suppliers are donating their product for the advertising that the bag offers. It can be a big cost to them (believe me I know, I talked to a number of them about it). Plus we have no idea how many people are going to be at the convention. All Reaper has is the pre-registration numbers and you can't just ask a small company for an additional 500 pieces. It might be a workable solution but I can certainly see the logistics nightmare that this could create. This is not a small thing.

Which is easier to plan for:

1. A known number of pre-registered attendees, an unknown number of walk-ins, and an unknown number of mailed swag bags, or

2. A known number of pre-registered attendees, an unknown number of walk-ins, and a known number of mailed swag bags.

If you don't have to worry about changes to the mailed numbers after a couple of weeks before the con (or whatever), you're down to a single variable problem.

But that only works if you cut of the sales of the off line swag bags far enough in advance. And if you don't allow orders during the convention you will have plenty of grumblers out there and you are potentially still asking for a lot from the other companies supplying stuff for the bags.

In the past, you could only get the bag mailed to you if you made a regular pre-reg. I don't see why that wouldn't work in the future. (With the caveat that the price of a shipped bag might be different than the price of a pre-reg. I'm just talking about timing.)

**AHEM**

Next year SWAG bags will be handled differently.

In the past you could pre-reg and get a bag mailed, and this led to us consistently overestimating actual attendance before the show, which resulted in waste and poor time management. We have changed this, and now have accurate numbers, for the first time in a decade.

You ask why we do not simply pre-sell the bags - because, as I have stated before, we receive a limited amount of content from other companies.  We can continue to make Sophie and the Paints on demand.  We cannot suddenly print more books, magazines, or dice on demand, nor can we ask the providers to provide more than the original contract stipulated.  The number of bags we can make is and ever shall be limited.  Offering pre-sales of SWAG Bags does not change this fact, it merely consumes a portion of the limited number of SWAG Bags before walk-ins arrive, which is exceedingly unfair to our guests.

Instead of pre-selling them, it is our stated intention and public obligation to fulfill the bags to those attending ReaperCon, and in fact, we have no obligation except in years where we expressly state that the will do so, to provide that bag to anyone not physically present at ReaperCon.  As such, Attendees will now and always be our first concern. Need I remind you all that it is a ReaperCon SWAG Bag, not a Reaper Fan Bag.  The intent is to do something nice for our fans which travel from far and wide to spend their weekend with us and our guests, and I am aware of no other convention where they sell the con SWAG bags with any regularity, or in fact, at all.

So how many other Cons out there ship off swag bags to people that do not attend?  I don't do Cons so not sure how the swag bag thing works.  The last one I did was Siggraph in '97 or '98 and I don't think there was a swag bag for going but I sure did get a lot of junk walking around and visiting the vendors.

Edit: I should finish reading Bryan's post before asking silly questions. :)

I believe that number would be 0.
