Painting Contest - Be a Spaceship Superstar! (ends Sept 7th, 2014)

Recommended Posts

I just realized, I have a Ral Partha mech dragon. If I don't paint him for this I deserve to have him bite off my toes!

Honestly, I don't believe I've ever seen the mech dragon painted.  This would be very cool if you did that.

It's great to see everyone so inspired!

You have no idea how relieved I am.  I was half convinced everyone would just go "Old sci-fi crap...boring."

In which case all these lovely figures would have eventually made it to the trade in table at ReaperCon (I WILL make it down there...eventually).

All this enthusiasm gives me hope that some of these will actually see paint, while I'm sure others will get happy homes in the "must have, might paint" boxes of others.

"Relieved?"  Jasper, we're metal fiends around here, despite many of us having large PVC and/or Plastic armies to work with.  That and you have some of the most impressive figures that I've never seen before.  This is a treasure trove for some of us, and truckload of awesome as well.  I keep coming back to the thread just to look at the first pictures and I'm having to put my eyes back in their sockets each time.

You don't happen to have any Celtos stuff in there do you?

This sci-fi contest could mesh very nicely (for some people) with the next Beauty Pageant challenge, which is going to be Chronoscope.  :)

Jasper I have Akuma sitting in my painting queue right now! I need to get a base for him before I do more than undercoat him (there are a couple of Unicorns in the queue as well). :)

Started painting my Bones IMF minis and it looks like I'll have a bunch of Relic Knights soon as well and I do want to get back to the Sedition Wars stuff and...

If I get in on this I might go ahead and paint the IMEF team I already have based and primed...  and maybe some more bugs.  ::D:

Er. Do you know where that phrase comes from?

On a happier note, I just got a little srprue of three space marines from my local comics shop for Free Comics Day.

no clue at all. So I wiki'd it. I am now strongly tempted to change what I said, only that would cause more confusion

I just Googled it as well. I had no idea despite actually using the phrase myself a number of times.

I put two entries into the recent Reaper Facebook Convert and Paint contest. This first one didn't get many votes, which doesn't surprise me as I think not too many people knew what it was and it was on the weirder side. Plus the paint job itself was kind of bland.  But I like the idea of it because of what it is. It is a tikbalang - a malevolent, mythical Filipino creature that leads travelers astray or plays tricks on them. It has a horse's head, a bony body, and long, disproportioned limbs.

I used these minis to make it.  The wendigo's head was chopped off.  Then I took the head of the Silverhorn, removed the horn and did some filing and sculpting to get it to join properly to the body of the wendigo. Very minimal green stuff use outside of filling seams; I filled in the wendigo's hooves, which were cloven, and rebuilt a bit of the mane so it joined smoothly with the rest of the body.

And I saved the body of the unicorn.  At some point I'll have to convert it into a centaur!

Haven't post anything here for so long...

I'm not really following any color scheme here, since I am not familiar with the lore of CAV at all (I'm more interested in the game).

Also I wish I learnt a bit more about painting technique for glowing effect before painting the windows...

Can't believe I missed this one until now.  I didn't have a printer during their previous projects, but I'm definitely in on this one.  Less than 48 hours to go.  Link added.

Just noticed this KS was posted here. Only 53 hours left....

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wowbuildings/wowbuildings-further-space-adventures-3d-print-stl/description

Here we are folks, WOWBuildings is expanding further into space, with the infrastructure now for several types of scenarios, this KS will be a mix of vehicles and Buildings so you will have an even bigger range of choices for your tabletops. all will come in STL format and cuts will be made where needed so boot up those 3D printers once again and jump on board for what hopefully will be a great sack full of goodies to enjoy.
I am adding a couple of special adds that are for personal print use only as a little treat for you top end backers, all files will be initially 28mm scaled (but slightly over scaled to allow for GW sized figures) and optimized for 15-32mm scales so hopefully something for all.
Again human based faction designs for this KS with other races in the pipeline if all goes well, so hello again and as usual keep the feedback coming and if you want anything specific added then just ask, if it can be done it will be so
Stretch Goals as you see will start at £1000, and £500, but this time i am toying with adding some £250 jump points too here and there to add to the fun.
I have tried to keep the pledge level prices as low as i can as well including the licence which is an absolute bargain price for this KS as a thank you for continued support and to help with those after Xmas blues.
      £10 Road Builder
      £30 Asteroid Miner
      £40 Planet Settler
