Painting Contest - Be a Spaceship Superstar! (ends Sept 7th, 2014)

You're more agile than me. I normally just stumble onto here with bloodshot eyes to quickly post and write up something I've done before dragging myself off to bed. I should probably count how many of  my account updates say something about bedtime.... LOL!

Uber has some device that tells him when new posts are up. I remember two days ago. I barely posted a response and there was an uber like within seconds. ^_^

I'm tempted to participate in this. My group is just starting a Traveler's campaign, so there would be an excuse to paint some miniatures for them. Or at least some type of ship.

It's called "new content" and not having much to do at work haha!

Yes, you should!

New content? Where would one find this link? And, I have several months to decide. I did receive a tank from japser, so I could always paint that as a drone or some sort. :)

At the top right of the forum is a tab that says "View New Content" and it updates like hitting F5 for EVERYTHING that is new on the forum from every section/subsection. So I just use that as my button of choice to see what's up and go visit other forum sections as people post into them.

Edit: Ninja'd by Pingo who obviously used the button!

As Froggy has proven on multiple occasions, with a few minutes of conversion work, any mini is a scifi mini, lol...

As for converting fantasy tropes to sci fi, here's a transcript of the first two pages of Darths and Droids, a webcomic that reimagines all of the Star Wars movies as if they were a continuing roleplaying game campaign.  It's *very* funny, btw.

GM: Right. Everyone listening? Here's the campaign intro.

Opening Crawl: Episode I - The Phantasmal Malevolence. Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute. Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo. While the Congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict...

Obi-Wan: I have a bad feeling about this...

Qui-Gon: What? I'm still looking at the equipment list.

Obi-Wan: How many gold pieces—

GM: Republic credits.

Obi-Wan: Whatever. How many do we have?

GM: Uh... 120 each.

Qui-Gon: Hmmm. We can't even afford blasters.

Obi-Wan: Oh man!

Qui-Gon: Let's see. Electro-axe. Energy mace. "Plasma bow"?? You just took a D&D equipment list and stuck techy words in front, right?

GM: Don't be stupid.

Qui-Gon: Ten foot laser pole...

Qui-Gon: There's laser swords. We can get one of those each.

Obi-Wan: I suppose they'll have to do.

Qui-Gon: They sound lame. If this is a space game, we should have blasters.

GM: Are you quite ready to get on with it?

Obi-Wan: Okay, so where are we?

GM: Were you even listening? You're on a Trade Federation battleship.

Qui-Gon: All right! So who do we kill?

GM: <sigh> You're first level. You're just here to negotiate.

Qui-Gon: I can't negotiate with a sword! I need a blaster!

So I was just about to check out my first Star Wars Legion game night at the lfgs when the whole apocalypse thing happened, so rather than painting my Imperials, I've been focusing on  getting my rebel scum assembled so that wife (who is "mostly" interested in playing) and I can learn to play here at home. With that complete I now need to get some more Imperials finished so we can actually play, since I'm not attaching bases to the Imperials until they are painted.
As my wife actually agreed to play this weekend, that meant I needed a commander quick!  So I pulled up the FFG guide online to paint Vader and knocked out a decent tabletop in a couple of hours.

Good enough and he already squeaked on a victory yesterday in our first game (he had one wound left).
Now back to painting white armor to get more troopers ready.....sigh.

Been a while since I posted a show-off....hopefully I'll be more productive painting this year. Of to a good start, I've already painted more than double my total for last year....

I've started painting up some of the Star Wars Legion figures I've been picking up from my lfgs for the last half year or so. I started with a unit of Stormtroopers out of the starter box.  These were supposed to be a nice super quick tabletop paint job to get the year started. While they were a quick tabletop paint job, that quick ended up being spread over 2 months....hopefully I will get better at getting some painting in more often over the next couple of months.

      The whole unit.

      Standard troopers.

      Commander and specialists.
