I apologize if the topic is covered somewhere, but I couldn't find the answer to my question on the forums or an affiliated site. If it's already covered, please link me.

 

How does one go about volunteering for ReaperCon? I loved attending this year and would like to give some of my time next year to making it as great for others as it was made for me. Help?

Depends on what you're volunteering for. Games are the easiest way to get on the volunteer bandwagon. Reaper will post a 'want to host a game?' Thread prior to 2015 if past years have been any indication. At that point chime in.

I was going to make a post like this myself.

 

 From what I've seen Reaper has their own sort of non Reaper affiliated friends that pitch in during the con days, especially before and after. Which I think is great. Wednesday evening Bryan grabbed me to help stock the miniature racks and I was more than happy to help.

 

 What I would consider if I were Reaper would be to institute a more structured volunteering corps. For the following reasons:

 

 -Reapercon is getting to that size point where it would benefit from an organized and directed group of volunteers.

 -It's a huge feel-good for the community just to be asked to help out and an even better feel-good for community members that are looking to help.

 -It helps make Reapercon even better at little to no cost.

 -It's a common trend in medium to large sized conventions and it works.

 -

 

 For example: Someone mentioned in the Feedback thread about the tables in the classrooms being left soiled, dirty and used water cups left out. I noticed this too and really it isn't that big of a deal to me but in my opinion there's no need to put housekeeping duties on the artists that are trying to get in and get out because the time table is kind of tight. Bam, have a volunteer police the classrooms after every class. Here you volunteer A, you go around the classrooms after the 10am and 12pm classes and dump the water, give the tables a quick wipe and look for anything else that needs attention. It would take them 10 minutes tops and solves any issues before they become issues. It also frees up the artists to get on with their schedules. You could have 2 volunteers a day split the classes for a total investment of their time of 20 minutes each.

 

 That's just one example. There's several ways to go about it. You could have volunteers scheduled for certain tasks. You could also have volunteers 'on call' like hey you, come on down to the side entrance, I need you to help pick things up and put them down.

 

 And if you wanted to reward them give them a Reapercon shirt but this one also says Volunteer on the back. Or free admission. Or no reward needed at all. I think I could speak for a lot of people that attend Reapercon that we would do it and help out for free, no reward needed, myself included.

Yes, we needed a Classroom Minion who could go around and put out fresh water and plates. I have had one in past years but she did not attend this year.    I'll bring up the Volunteer Corps idea at our meeting tomorrow here at HQ.

This year,with the awesomeness I was shown by reaper peeps, Bryan especially, I would be more than happy to dive in and work as a volunteer. Check the paint and take tables, do a quick clean of the classrooms, or lend my awesome manly muscles to some task

While CAVBOSS will most likely get my free time next year, I would also like to throw my hat in as someone who can be grabbed at random for help with con things.

Make friends with Bryan and Ron.  Once they know you are willing to help they will grab you for a job every time they need a body and see you close by!

I wouldn't mind volunteering either, and i know the mister wouldn't mind. I'd like to help Lady Storm with the paint and take tables so she could be free to do other things. I also wouldn't mind helping the guys at registration. They were so awesome to deal with and get help from whenever necessary. @_@ Heck, I'd also be an aide to the artists of needed.

I tried to let Bryan know that I was available for volunteer tasks, but it appeared that he was busy trying to get the regulars mobilized. Maybe next year.

Sometimes with volunteers it can be more time intensive to train them on task than to simply do the task.

 

On-the-spot volunteers are wonderful, but I work best when I have time to train.  

 

Still, we will very likely need volunteers next year, so be ready to jump in and get on that list!
