Reaper User Vaitalla Posted May 14, 2014 Reaper User Share Posted May 14, 2014 Hello all! This is your official update: the dates on the ReaperCon "Save The Date" Magnet are INCORRECT. The dates for ReaperCon 2015 will be: THURSDAY APRIL 30 - SUNDAY MAY 3rd, 2015. We had a bit of a hotel mix-up and they were unable to give us the consecutive days we needed, so we had to switch. The dates listed above have been reserved for us by the Hilton, so we should be good to go. We know it's a whole year away, but we wanted to update you all super-early, so you have time to plan!
Flamehawke
Just curious. Will it be the same hotel? And about the same price for tickets? My mom and I are working out the cost so we can figure out if we can do anything else that is special before ReaperCon comes or if we need to devote all of our spare cash to this endeavor
Reaperbryan
Just curious. Will it be the same hotel? And about the same price for tickets? My mom and I are working out the cost so we can figure out if we can do anything else that is special before ReaperCon comes or if we need to devote all of our spare cash to this endeavor At present the same hotel is planned - that's why we changed dates, the hotel could not give us the requested dates after all. Rates are calculated after initial cost estimates are completed, and it's a bit early for that now.
Flamehawke
I can live with that. Thank you for the quick response.
Pegazus
It's always a trap. And when it isn't a trap? It will become one later at her convenience. Back on topic, Southwest just announced nonstop flights from Denver to Dallas. Cheapest fare would be less than gas, so seriously thinking about it. Never been to any convention before.
Reaperbryan
Love field is only 1-5 miles farther, by highway than DFW. It's just smaller and less easy to get to. My wife prefers it to DFW, I prefer DFW.
Artists Wren Posted May 21, 2014 Artists Share Posted May 21, 2014 For future reference, you can ask any of the servers in the breakfast area for a custom omelette or pancakes, you don't need to wait for the cook to show up in the window area. As hotel breakfasts go, it's nicer than a lot that I have had. (Though I have emotional scars from the day the 'scrambled eggs' were barely cooked...)
CashWiley
I missed the Scrambled Eggs Incident. I thought it was pretty good mediocre breakfast buffet fare. Good fuel to start the day, can't beat the price. Better than most 'continental breakfasts' served by hotels, worse than any actual breakfast served by inns and b&b's. Next year I will be putting in custom orders, though. I was in a hurry this year!
haldir
So anyone know when the best time to purchase tickets? Is there a set time before the flight dates? Say like 5 months before? I did a test & while it won't go all the way to April/May I stretched it to end of March the other day & the cost for same trip I did this year was like 475.
Artists Wren Posted May 26, 2014 Artists Share Posted May 26, 2014 My experience had been that further out than 3 months tended to be more expensive than prices I would see 2-3 months out. Anymore it seems there's not much of a discernible pattern you can use to get primo deals, it's all set through complex programmed algorithms. Though there may still be a few broad rules of thumb like that or which day of the week you fly that tend to be better or not. I had read recently that you could try clearing your cache and cookies between searches, that the sites show tickets up to $50 cheaper to someone doing a fresh search as compared to someone who has a history of recent travel searches. I haven't tested that myself, though.
ObsidianCrane
So I will not be able to attend. I tried. But it is not to be. Maybe 2016. Also if you are at Gen Con, look me up. I'll be doing Speed painting on Thursday. So on the topic of 2016 my wife would like to know the dates for ReaperCon that year so we can plan the family holiday to coincide. Between March 26 and April 10 would be awesome....
Heisler
I doubt that the 2016 dates have been figured out yet. Based on the dates of 2013 (April 18-21), 2014 (April 24 -27) and 2015 (April 30th - May 3rd) I don't think its likely that we will see a date as early as April 10th. But who knows.
Delrik
When is a good time to reserve our rooms at the Hilton? The Hilton website says it's sold out for the dates but I assume they have been reserved for us convention goers already. Thanks!
Heisler
I'm fairly certain ReaperCon will be at the same hotel for 2015. I have never run into a hotel that doesn't feel over whelmed by their first game convention. I have broken in my fair share of them over the years with the Denver game conventions. No matter how much you warn them about what its going to be like they always have the "we know best attitude". Usually we go through a "we told you so" wrap a meeting afterwards. After that they usually love us. Game conventions are actually pretty easy on the hotel staff and overall we tend to be less demanding. The Hilton will be much better prepared, as will Reaper, for next year. Edited June 9, 2014 by Heisler
