I need a Pet for Skeletor / WIP painting Skeletor

Recommended Posts

I made today a small modification on a Bones Mini:

twn7jyrq.jpg

I still need a Ram Skull. I know there are such skulls available in 28mm, but I think this modification will need a while.

What I need is Panthor.

Does anyone know this Barbarian (and the others) from Mirliton? Are these 2 minis or a one piece mini?

I thought this one could be big enough, even if it is a sabre tooth tiger and not a panther.

I will make my next order in a shop where I can get these barbarian tiger riders or some North Star Sabretooth Tigers.

They have also this Leopard from North Star Miniatures, but I'm not sure if the size of it is good:

But it is possible that I found a panther just, now:

Does anyone know the size of this mini?

-------------

I got also from Reaper:

02316: Brom the Barbarian

03570: Sabertooth Tiger

I saw already a modification of these minis to He-Man and Gringer. :-)

That Mirliton figure is originally from Grenadier, and yes, the figures are completely separate:

On the Ram Skull....

The Bones line has a mercenary mage that has two - one on his head, one on his belt:

77174: Leisynn, Mercenary Mage ($2.49)

*EDIT* For the mount - there is also the Phase Cat -

02664: Phase Cat ($7.99)

I am sure that you can think of something to do with the tentacles....

I must check today my mage, I have 2 of him, so I can cut one of them. :-)

The Phase Cat is also a good idea.

My biggest problem is, that I do not know if the cats are tall enought to be mounts.

I just saw also another reaper mini, it is a Elven Hunting Cat - 14453:

Here is Skeletors first coat of colors, I should have put this thread in WIP:

What colors are the best to highlight purple, lavender or lilac base colors?

What color is the best to brighten them up?

Just made the next modification (thanks toTheAuldGrump):

The Jaw broke while removing glue, but I think it still looks good, need only new paint.

As you can see, I changed some colors(, again.)

Not on the photo is the changed shoulderpads, they got also a bone colored border. Same with the girdle.

Few minutes ago I put a coat of Army Painters Quickshade strong tone over the mini with a brush. It is the best wash for bone color (and in this case also for the face) and and a good protection while starting with the highlights.

I can't decide how to make the highlights for purple. Which color would you use to brighten up purplelike colors?

About Panthor, I think I will use the Hell Dorado Panther. I will try also to make a saddle for him. But I need to wait untill next month to get him.

Mwa hahahahahaha He-man. With a few more layers of paint, I will possess the Sword of Power and rule Eternia!

I second the jungle gorl's friend as Panthor.

That one is 28mm.

The cat from 30001 Queen of the Jungle is at 54 mm scale, and is just about the right size to serve as a mount for a 28mm miniature.

I second this one as a mount for a 28mm figure. Plus you can get just the cat if you don't need a female jungle giant.

I’m starting my first of the kid heroes from the Bones 5 core set.  I really like the character design with the sharp looking long coat, cool hair and bone sword.

I want to do something different with the skin on this one.  I want to paint them as a moon elf, with cool undertones and warmer highlights.

im going to try basecoating with a blue and highlight up to pinkish highlight.  Not sure if this is going to work.

Starting with a basecoat of ritterlich:dark elf at about 1:1.

This is along the lines of what I’m going for with the skin.  Putting this here for reference.

The merfolk in Dark Depths sculpted by Bobby Jackson were one of the things I was most looking forward to in Bones 5.

I chose the Mermaid Ranger for my RCL Q3 Large Group “Under the Sea”, and started work on her after ReaperCon.

I've been trying to make bolder color choices, and thought this was a great mini to push myself in that direction.

I’ve posted some WIPs on discord, but wanted to record the process here in a bit more detail.

First I primed both rangers with Badger neutral primer, and then basecoated the tails and hair with 0963 Coal Black

Then I tried to airbrush the tails with 09330 Wild Violet while leaving some dark shadows.

Been working on these guys as a test for the squad color scheme. Trying some layering on the white, it's working out well so far.
They're 1:48 scale, same as Star Wars Legion, and I've rebased them onto the same 27mm bases that Legion uses. Mostly because the standard D1947 bases are like 35mm. Way huge.

Hi there all, I've decided to dive into the deep end with finally trying the scary world of OSL. 😄

Feel I've lost the plot on this ... so any advice on how to proceed with this would be greatly appreciated! (Having fun, though, despite not knowing what the hell I'm doing. 😁)

I'm including a "top down" view, which is where I'm most confuddled. That dark line down his arm which represents the shadow from the staff which sits between the source of light ... it just doesn't look right to me.  🤔

So, I'm all ears for suggestions on improvements!
