Scored some cheap Heroclix at the New England Super Megafest Comic Con this weekend, partly (lol) for spare parts...

 Marvel Comics' Wasp (clear wings)

Mirage from the New Mutants (with a clear yellow bow and arrow, decent wings on the horse although the rest isn't all that great),

Doctor Strange (clear spell effect)

Ragman and Storm are getting repainted, most likely. There's also some clear orange plastic flying fire guy and a Dwarven Berserker.

I also picked up a Dreamblade figure, a Murderous Berserker. It's 55mm tall to the top of his helmet without the horns, so it's actually a bit small for, say, a frost giant - but it doesn't really matter since I just picked it up to paint.

Because I ended up buying most of them in the last hour of the Con, it only cost me $7 for eight figures.

However, while I was digging through the buckets of figures, I was explaining that I was gonna repaint/repurpose them for fantasy stuff, and the guy at the table says, "Well, we do have this ogre guy here... You can have it for free."

I looked at it and thought to myself,"Hey, that's not a bad looking ogre for a Herocl...wait, that's not a Heroclix."

It was a DDM Hill Giant Barbarian... #49 from the War Drums set - A promo figure that they'd sent him 20 copies of.

Not knowing what to do with them, he'd been giving them away.

I suggested he might want to go look them up online and see how much they were selling for. Turns out he'd just given me an $8-15 figure (not including shipping). ::D:

In non-mini news, I also got my copy of the 25th anniversary Rocky Horror Picture Show dvd signed by Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn at the Con. Because I paid for priority seating to the special meet 'n' greet session, I also received a limited edition (#85 of 100) commemorative poster - which, unfortunately, I didn't have the money to get signed...

That beserker is great. Could be a nice unit filler in a Viking army

The Murderous Berserker is kind of in a weird spot - it's 55mm to the crown of his head...

It's about twice as tall as a medium-sized human, which means it's a bit small for a frost giant, a bit too civilized-looking to be a hill giant or ogre, and just a bit too large to double as a Goliath...

But, fortunately, I mainly paint for painting's sake and not for using them in a game, so it doesn't really matter all that much if it's basically off-scale. it's definitely a damn cool sculpt with a lot of nice detail, although I'll probably have to un-attach the up-raised right arm (seam's at the shoulder) and reposition it, maybe even need to boil it, since the haft of the axe has a noticeable S-curve to it just beneath the right hand.

They had a whole plastic storage tub full of Dreamblade minis for a buck, but it seemed at a cursory dig-through that a lot of the ones that might look good in a game were just a bit too much off-scale size-wise and the ones that were the right size just weren't all that good sculpt-wise. I didn't have time for a thorough dig-through, though.

The tub of one-dollar HeroClix had some other relatively on-scale superheroes that were borderline naked or equiped close enough to a fantasy look that I was considering picking them up (Raven from DC Comics or Shaman from Marvel Comics for example), but since I was already way over-budget for the Con I limited myself to just the handful i picked out.

I wouldn't pay reseller or internet prices for any of the Dreamblade, Heroscape or HeroClix figures, considering they don't generally have the same level of detail as I'm used to with gaming minis, but I don't mind dropping a dollar on one if I find something interesting or useful for cannibalization, i.e., it has a translucent spell/magic/power effect or gear.

Most of the merch at these Comic Cons I could care less about, although the actual comic books and movie memorabilia are cool to look at and I might buy something if I wasn't perennially on a tight budget/dead broke, but I do like to give a more thorough once-over at the booths selling stuff I might find useful for my minis or just to paint/convert on its own. Aside from minis I've also done a few conversions of action figures and plastic models over the years - back in the day I made a few Car Wars-style vehicles with car models modded w/ tank, aircraft and battleship weapons and bits.

Something happened to your pictures on your wordpress, when I click on pictures 3 and 4 (blue cape dwarf), they give me picture 5 (armor dwarf). And if I click on 7, 8, 9, and 10 (the less armored dwarf), I end up with picture 1 of the mimic bookcases. :P

Got on the Internet just in time to see Twisted selling master copies of Carter, there's only 25 so I hope I managed to snag one as he's looking awesome!

He is a pretty neat figure. The sculptor should've made his face more oval/longer to get more in line with the artwork IMO though.

I agree, I would've also liked the gun holster and walking stick to carry over to the sculpt as well, but I'm still looking forward to seeing if I got one.
