@DF- Tanis half-elven from dragonlance... at least that's what I believe he means.

OIC.  I know that it is blasphemy but I have actually never read it.

No biggie. I can't stand the Terry Goodkind books or the Shannara novels, and people swear by those just as much.

Skeleton Dude is totally Skeletor!  :D  I've loved the Kaha models for a few years now.  I almost bought some last year when they had a good sale going.

I picked up the new D&D beginner boxed set as my daughter and her friend want to give it a try.  I can't wait.  I've started reading through it and its actually pretty cool so far.  There's enough details on the rules and such that you can run it without needing to know anything about D&D, but enough to give you a good taste of it.

I also picked up Tish, from Reaper's Halloween special models.  That makes four of the however many there are and my FLGS still has a few ones I don't have left that I want to get.

The 5th Edition D&D rules aren't terribly complicated if you've ever played an RPG before. Even a computer RPG gives someone a decent idea of how to make a D&D character these days, since most of the concepts, mechanics and tropes are already familiar to them - Character Class, Hit Points, Armor Class, etc.

Picked up two Scene-A-Rama: Desert Plants kits for $8.00 from Michaels. They were in the clearance section.

Included in each kit - 15 cacti, foilage, two bags of colored powder (for flowers), and two spray adhesives. :D

I picked up some stuff from the game store, but I don't remember what. Will take a picture when I go home.

How are the flowers and the cacti in those sets? I keep looking at them but have never actually pulled the trigger and bought one...

My eldest, composer of the fabulous and funny Shakespeare Summarized Youtube series and the witty and hand-illustrated "Iliad" and "Odyssey" in the Classics Summarized Youtube series, has a birthday coming up and is facing a summer of art instruction.

I have just acquired her one of those nifty, incredibly compact travel watercolor kits, this one from Holbein, a double bonus because she's just coming off a year's study of Japanese and the box is covered with Japanese descriptions of the contents.

How do you like the Holbein?  I've always used Lukas and love them but I'm like most people and seek novelty in all things.

I haven't tried Holbein's watercolors, but their oil paints are first-rate (bear in mind that Winsor and Newton oil colors are mediocre, Series 7 brushes notwithstanding).  I have used some of Holbein's other products too  and found them to be pretty high quality overall.

I am preparing my wallet for the damage I'm about to do at the Reaper booth this weekend

I wish that there was a miniatures related booth at Phoenix Comic-Con. The closest we had were two: the Geek Chic Tables (way out my price range) and a custom painted terrain company (again, way out of my price range).

Stopped by the local comic shop on the way home from paying the bills.

This week's sale - 10% off "supplies"...

The "supplies" I picked up:

Blood For The Blood God x 1

P3 Brownstuff x 2

They also have a box of random unblistered metal minis on the counter for $4.99 each. Usually I wouldn't pay that much for the random crap they have in it since sometimes they're either missing pieces or broken, but they apparently recently restocked it with some oldschool stuff they'd picked up. They had some pieces of the old Grenadier Wizards box set and the Monsters box set, as well as a partial Wizard's Room set.

I now once again own the wizard and dragon familiar from the Wizard's Room, which were the only two pieces that I was missing... ::D:

The cacti are definitely larger than the scale Reaper uses. Some look usable. I haven't tried any of this stuff before, so it will be fun times...as long as I don't decide to inhale the flowers. :P

Saguaro can grow to be pretty tall...like taller than buildings.

Eta: Google says 40-60ft is typical and the record is almost 80ft tall. I can verify that many around here are taller than the houses they are next to.

That is true. My own experience has always been with potted cactus and none growing larger than 6-8 feet. I forget that they can actually grow larger. Hey look, all the cacti are now useful. XD
