Just picked up some loose, painted minis from a local comic shop.

aliensandrobots_zpsb7e3d1e1.jpg

The robots are all from TSR's Star Frontiers line, apparently.  The pink-white fellow on the right is a Lessor (sic) Other God from RAFM.  The gug-looking fellow I just found after a great deal of searching.  He's an Oni no Kamu from AEG's Clan War line, with some modifications.  Looks like the previous owner was trying to give him eyes.

At the very least, the robots should prove useful for pulling off some manner of sci-fi scene.

So I travelled to my FLGS in NYC today, hoping to gate last months and this months mini of the month, and saw neither....   So I grabbed some GW paints I needed refills of, and after checking

I couldn't resist. Sale rack + employee discount. Mmm bright colors

So, today started off with a surprise email from Ben Komets saying that I won his Patreon raffle for March! I am still in freak out mode.

My sci-fi diorama minis arrived. The base, however, has not.

  • The Invisible Man
  • Motorcycle
  • Caine, Cyber Troll
  • Boris Barayev
  • John Bishop, Space Marshal

Also received a nice bottle of Sample Brown. I've identified it as being closest to Muddy Brown.

Secret Weapon shipment in. The wall on the 120mm base isn't as big as I thought it was, now I'm going to have to order a pack of jersey barriers to make my diorama idea work. It will have to wait until I get back from Korea in three weeks.

Recieved:

  • 120mm Urban Streets Base
  • 5x 40mm Cobblestone Bases

Field Report :: Saturday, June 7th, 2014 :: Private Residence, front yard, Flyover Country

While out on routine patrol I espied a garage sale --- the interesting looking letter box I'd seen from the street proved to be cheap plastic. But nearby there was a small table of assorted figures. Various Disney princesses and such. For two bucks I left with this:

Stopped by the FLGS yesterday after cashing my paycheck, inspired by this thread to peruse the new stock on the way to the comic book shop in the next town over to dig through the half price bin there.

After deciding against some oldschool (Harlequin or Fantasy Battles, don't remember which) armored skeletons and a Saracen Command pack on the basis that I didn't really need them and they weren't quite cool enough to justify $6.95 each just to toss them in the unpainted pile, I decided to impulse purchase the Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved male loresong faen as a mini for my 4E pixie druid, Jack Daw.

For a size comparison, the top of the faen's head is level with the bottom of Sir Forscale's rib cage, which means the mini is about 3x as tall as the actual character, but about as small as I can find while still retaining real details.

I'll need to chop off the sideburns, most of the length of his hair in the back and the pipes on his belt, add some crow feathers on the end of his staff, and then sculpt the wings for him - rather than regular pixie wings, Jack Daw has a single full-sized crow feather for each of his four wings. (In-game he's not really a pixie or a druid but a different type of Fey creature, a shapeshifting crow spirit whose class powers are refluffed as racial abilities.)

One more project added to the pile...

Half-price bin at the other shop yielded nothing. It's mostly 4E class powers cards and Flames of War stuff, with a couple of $3 dvd movies thrown in (which would've been cool if I didn't already own Iron Man, Spiderman and the Matrix, sigh)...

I've looked at the 4e power cards etc, they are tempting... than the miniature market puts postage to be way to evil to even consider (moving them past full price, which is a bit too pricy for me)....

Ohhhhh and I bought some pretty paints.....I heard squeals of happiness!

That's pretty amazing for just 3 bucks, pcktlnt!!

Yup! First big score of miniatures since I started thrifting 6 or 7 years back. :D

Probably use these all as practice pieces to rebase to 1 inch metal washers. The bases are 30 mm. I have the terrain and cards to go with the figures too, but pretty sure no one in my group is going to play the minis game.

Here's a simple one for you.  Painted the Great Worm as a Purple Worm to the surprise of no one.

Couldn't find a better thread to post this in.  Has anyone else ever had mold grow on their minis?

I have a set of bones that have been sitting around for about two year. They were super glued to a reaper base. Baking soda and super glue were used to blend the integrated base into the round base. There's also a layer of cheap craft paint as primer.

These guys have been sitting on my painting table in a former sun-room for about two years.

I noticed the bases had yellowed a bit, which I've begun to notice on some of my other older bases using baking soda as a basing material. But when I checked on them I noticed small fuzzy looking orange tufts.

I can only assume this is mold.

The only things I could think of to cause this are the baking soda or the water used to clean my brush before priming.

      Has anyone else seen this?

Hello again!  I'm back with an assortment of Bones that are serving as my Rangers of Shadow Deep solo party.  Decided I wanted a classic fantasy look, but didn't want to fall into the cliched green cloak look.  With that stipulation, I settled on a more autumnal color palette, and tried to keep this aesthetic across the entire party, without anyone looking like they were wearing matching uniforms.  I'm pretty pleased with the results and I tried to push myself with each mini.  What do you think?

More Photos and Thoughts Beneath the Spoiler:

I have only played a few scenarios of Rangers of Shadow Deep, and I'm honestly not sold on the whole solo-game thing.  But if the game has done anything for me, it has given me motivation to paint more and has given purpose to some of the things I already have painted.  I already ordered some extra gnolls and ghouls to meet the required numbers and will likely be showing off some monsters soon.

Which character do you like best?

What games have motivated you to paint those piles of shame?

This is the Hill Giant from 77939. I have not finished the cat yet, so I only have the Giant here. I have been trying to add various colors (layers of color for one area/color) to my minis to make them more interesting. Following some of the painters here and other utubers and painters like Angel G. I used an Imperial Purple base for this entire mini and then did Troll Flesh as next base for skin and then built up reddish skin tones for skin and then went lighter tan. Hope you enjoy, I had fun painting him.

Hello Forum friends, I'm being quite productive lately  Gonna show you the most recent mini I painted: Small world Sophie.
Ok, I have to say I'm in love with this chibi minis, I'm gonna buy lot more cause I find them so funny to paint!
About the paint job, well, anytime I manage to paint Sophie, my color choice for her wings is always Violet (or purple if you prefer) and so why do not make my life easy and go for a complementary palette? So, purple and yellow. Easy peasy...
Anyway, this is the result, I'm quite happy of her, I hope you'll like her too.
As always every C&C is more than welcome :)
