Dane
Hi guys. I'm working on a mini, and want to show it off as a WIP on the boards. Alas, I don't own a digital camera. I've heard of people taking about "scanning in" minis. How's this done? best I can plan out would be to take a blister pack, and put some Play-Doh or tacky putty on the base of a mini. Stick the mini to one of the side panels, mini facing toward the scanner bed. The blister would allow me to put some thing behind the mini for a background in the scanner. Then I could rotate the mini to scan in all sides. Would this work? How do people normally do this?
Crusoe the Painter
If you have a HP scanner, don't bother. Their depth of field is severely lacking, so it will be very blurry. Umax and Epsons work very well. Don't bother with backgrounds, they'll just show up as blurs. I tend to leave the cover of the scanner off, so the figure has a black background. Just lay it flat on the scanner, and scan.
jenova
Zappy wrote an article about scanning minis. Maybe that could be helpful

I dunno, I'm working with an hp4400c and I get much better results with it than with my flippin' Olympus D-380 camera. dang camera. other than that I pretty much agree, sometimes a box to support the cover can give a nice neutral grey though. Dr. Bob
I tried scanning a mini in recently (using an HP scanner), and it came out OK. All I did was lay the mini directly onto the scanner glass and leave the cover off. Zaphod's article is good, but on my scanner I noticed that depending on how I placed the mini, the lighting and "angle" of view varied. Obviously, you will be limited as to the views you can obtain - usually just front and back.
