Easiest way to play Warlord without changing stats?

Recommended Posts

I know this is a bit far-fetched.. but anyone find an "easy enough" way of playing Warlord without having fluctuating stats as models take damage? I know the varying stats is one of the key features of Warlord and to play without it would require a complete overhaul of points.. but lately I've been trying to find ways to get the game going and be easier for new players. Seems like for most players, the less record keeping, the better.

I know the alternative is to just play as is with their current point value and maybe introduce the changing statlines later.. ignoring the initial potential of points not accurately reflecting the models. Wouldn't mind seeing if anyone found a better way though.

It's really not record keeping, per se...  You will have multiple models using the same datacard.  Place a d6 behind the model (or on the base if room) showing the current damage track (no die equals the Zero track).  Once the model is identified as the target, most players, especially new ones, will need to look up the stats for the defensive value anyway... they can see the d6, know which column to look under....  I just don't see how this is a big problem.

I put data cards into a card protector page and just write on it with a wax pencil. Easy to cross off damage tracks and see right where you are with that model. I printed data cards for each model in my army and just rearrange them in the page pockets as required for each game.

This is how I currently play the game as well.. just keep a D6 on the models as they take damage and adjust the number accordingly (models with no dice by em are at full strength).

Yeah, the d6 method works great. You can even pick up really small d6 for this purpose and fit them on the bases in case you get in an epic combat.

I think with the dynamic model stats, doing it without tracking wounds would totally change the game... there are even a few models that get better as they take damage, so it wouldn't be fair to them.
