Right this second, the new alice in chains album, google play has a free month trial and it's $6 a month afterwards, I'm downloading a lot of the music and playing in the car off my phone.

KMFDM tends to get quite a few dirty looks here in northern WV. I can just imagine how it must be further south. I imagine that they just love the song "Stray Bullet" down there.

 

Of course, I'm not really one to talk about getting dirty looks over music, or even giving them. I get them all the time, and my neighbors probably think I'm half insane since I tend to do housework to blaring death, nu, and alt-metal music. I will say that most of the time when I give dirty looks over music it's because of people riding by with an overpowered and unbalanced stereo system in their car to the point where it's rattling bolts and shaking the thing apart, not the actual music they're playing*. There truly is such a thing as too much bass, and so many people just don't seem to realize that. Putting 2 12" 600w subwoofers in your Toyota Corolla's trunk and leaving the factory door speakers in is not having a "good system." That's called making a crappy system even worse.

 

*Unless it's Hatsune Miku, but that's more of a "WTF?!" look than a look of derision despite how much I dislike Miku. I've only ever encountered this situation once.

 

I know the feeling, My daughter has started head banging and clapping when she's in her car seat and I turn on stuff like zombie wumpscut or kmfdm and I just ignore the looks. we have a LOT of rattle traps here in the capital 30" rims and a stereo that makes My windows rattle and the rest of the car is rusted out and missing parts.

 

I had to google "Hatsune Miku" I remember hearing about this But Id rather listen to that than some of the more popular crap that's on the radio here, I am generally a very peaceful mellow person but a trip to the mall that accidentally exposes me to Biber and the like Might have me ending up on the news.

Over the Hills and Far Away is the first song I learned when I started to play again after taking a few years off guitar and bass in the mid-late 90s. No guitar, no painting, it was a crappy time for me.

if we are talking about playing, I am working on I can't hear you by dead weather it's a slightly challenging on guitar but much less painful to play than most white stripes songs (at least for beginners)

I think I still have all of Steeleye Span's LPs, even though I no longer have a turntable. And Woody Guthrie is awesome and Pete Seeger I hope lives to be 200. He's darned close to 100 already.

Strongsville, so a little west of you. I'm not sure what my schedule for July is yet though. I've seen them at the Odeon and some bar in Pauling, NY a couple of years ago. Their folk-y stuff is really good. Their pop-y stuff doens't really do it for me though.

I believe he still heads out to the Hudson Valley Memorial Highway to stand by the road with a big "Peace" sign. Or at least he still was doing it five years ago.

Go see Great Big Sea if you can. Their music does, in a number of cases, fall heavily on East Coast Canadian and Celtic themes, but the shows are fun, and they really know how to play. Not to mention some of their best songs are really a lot of fun. "Paddy Murphy" and "The Jolly Butcher" both tell great stories. Unlike our resident Goblin, I've not met any of them in person though.
