Ludo
So maxstyles suggested a 24 hour painting marathon over here. One of the suggestions was to have some kind of voice chat. Since Skype only allows 10 people on a video conference and and is a system resource hog, I offered my Mumble server for use and suggested livestreaming for anyone who wants to have video. Tomorrow I'll be setting up everything for a practice/stress test. I'll be posting more details here as I get things set up. I plan on having everything up at 12AM UTC Thats: 5pm PDT 6pm MDT 7pm CDT 8pm EDT 9pm ADT (Buglips Daylight Time) Mumble combines a very light weight voice chat with text chat for free with no ads or other junk. It can be found here: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ If you want to use the voice functions you'll need a mic. Tips Make sure your mic, headphones etc are plugged in and recognized by your computer before you start Mumble. You can set up nicknames for Chat channels so if your Reaper forum name is taken don't worry you can still make it display in the chat room. Once you start Mumble, run through the setup wizard. If all your hardware is installed properly it should adjust all your settings so you can be heard and hear. DO NOT USE the always on option for your mic. If you are not using headphones, plan on having background noise, or like to sing to yourself while you paint, use the "push to talk option. See ReaperBryan's post on why no singing here If you don't have a mic you can still listen and use the text chat. If you want to provide video I suggest using some sort of livestream service like Twitch.tv

NomadZeke
I have other plans, but good luck with the test run. And admittedly I'm not a huge fan of mumble (long story...)
Moderator OneBoot Posted June 13, 2014 Moderator Share Posted June 13, 2014 I'll try to hop on; I know my mic works, but I've never done anything with Mumble before. :) Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

buglips*the*goblin
As this doesn't look like something that will scour my life with robots, I may be interested... but is it 9 pm Buglips(ish) time on the 13th? Because I'll be finished my day's painting well before then and, very likely, ready for sleep because I started my day at 3 am today. But, this may be something for future use.
Moderator OneBoot Posted June 13, 2014 Moderator Share Posted June 13, 2014 But, this may be something for future use. This is just a test run that Ludo's doing, and he's inviting others to pop in and test out mics/connections and such if they like. The actual 12 or 24 hour painting event will be Saturday, July 12th. Plan on the official start at midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) you can Google your time zone conversion for best accuracy. OneBoot is correct that this is just a stress test. While the primary function is to prepare for the paint marathon, I was hoping virtual paint groups might become a thing. I have other plans, but good luck with the test run. And admittedly I'm not a huge fan of mumble (long story...) I use Mumble because I got a server automatically when I got a game server. For the sake of improving my computer fu is there a technical reason you don't like Mumble?
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted June 13, 2014 Moderator Share Posted June 13, 2014 There are Mumble clients for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.morlunk.mumbleclient.free https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lordmarty.mumbleclient No idea if any of these work.
Mr Melons
It does work on Android...it required a bit more clicking than the pc version but once its setup it is easy to hop onto.
