A Change Of Pace

I've been hiding from my little men.

There are a horde of them on my workbench, now. Little men and little women, and some dwarves, a hobgoblin, Chibi Cthulhu, and oh so many more. All the Knights of the Dinner Table, modded to be holding paintball guns, for use in a skirmish game I was thinking about. The Black Hands, too, including Gordo wearing a Dalek shell, a joke that makes no sense unless you read the comic or check out the online version.*

And I'm afraid of them. I have motivational problems. I was off for the summer for a while, but now they need me back for a couple weeks, and nothing is getting painted. There are so many, so many...

And so I sat myself down and forced myself to work on Wyrmgear. And durned if I didn't enjoy myself. Not having to wear the visor, working on something bigger scale, and in two days I'd finished Wyrmgear to my own satisfaction. The bugger's been sitting on my bench since the first Vampire box arrived, and now I finished him in a white heat in two days. And he's pretty.

Started on Kaladrax almost immediately after. He's huge. He's also pretty easy to detail. And the work is proceeding surprisingly fast.

Who'd have thought I just needed a change of scale?

Life is what gets in the way for me. I find myself overwhelmed and lacking time often these days. It then leads to a cluttered work area (since it doubles as my office desk - and occasionally my daughter's viewing place for shows). I then have to find motivation to clean/organize my work area before starting up.

A change of pace is nice too.

I went home to see The Rents for the weekend. While I was there I roughed out a Pyramid bow, and went shooting with The Dad. Ready to get back to ruining minis with paints.

Had to look up Pyramid bow.  Hadn't seen that style before.  Yet another hobby I've always wanted to try (bow making that is).  I really should set up a target in the backyard and give my longbow a workout.  Who am I kidding; it'll be a workout for me, I need to know the dust off.

I picked up a nice English longbow at the Renfaire a few years back, but my problem, being overly-dwarf-shaped (i.e., barrel-chested as all < expletive >), is that I have a truly ridiculous draw length, and most store-bought arrows are a good four inches too short for me... Being that I pretty much suck with a longbow anyway, I can't really justify the extra cash to buy longer arrows online.

I've made a handful bows over the years (some real, some theatre props), but not enough to consider myself a dabbler in the art.

I knitted a baby blanket once... Well, okay, it was more like a large napkin, but I did pretty good.

(Every so often I just randomly take up a different hobby for a project or two just for something different to do...)

Finished Kaladrax, but after looking at the inspiration gallery, I think I can do better with the base.

Finished the Bones griffon.

And finished a couple of individual minis that have been sitting on the bench for months now waiting for me to finish them...

I seem to have lost all of my knitted hats. At some point I'm going to have to take a break from painting and knit a few more. @[email protected] I've got the yarn, just need the...enthusiasm.

How about a hat that's a dome-shaped version of Tom Baker's Doctor Who scarf?
