I had thought both of those things were a possibility, but the oblong shape on the front is completely throwing me off. I guess I'll just put some shade of brown on it and go from there. Thanks for your thoughts!

That would be the Tassle on the front of the sporran.  Generally a braided tassle but the detail is missing in the bones.  Or at least thats how I am going as he is a kilt wearing barbarian!

I have also made some progress on my Kord... basically some shading on the skin , base coat on his metal shin guards and base coat for all I consider to be leather.

Even in bones this dude has a lot of detail going on!

More progress for me today as well.  Originally my plan had been to do one area at a time to completion, however, as others have pointed out, this guy has a lot going on, and I decided I needed to block in colors to figure out where I was going.

Various leather pieces were based in either earth brown, mahogany brown or leather brown; the large belt thing will be done in gold eventually.

Loincloth was based in rusty red.

Metal bits based in a random grey, just to define where they are.

Decided to make the wolf into a winter wolf, which should fit well with my eventual plans for a snow base.

Still have a few more cloth bits to base coat, as well as the things dangling in front of the red loincloth.  Haven't decided what to do with any of those yet.

After base coats are done, I'll probably try to finish the back side first so I can get the cape glued on and handle any cleanup/patching that results from that.

I didn't finish Kord today as I'd hoped. The last time I sat down to work on him, I dropped my brush either on my lap or on the floor SEVEN times. I finally took it as a sign that I should end my painting for the day.

I must say, I really, really enjoy seeing all of our different takes on Kord and all of the little bits on him.

He needs more highlighting.

For re-attaching the cape, just super glue?

Little more work done last night (sorry for the slightly blurry pics; hand held cell phone pics will have to do for WIPs).

Started layering; mostly on the back side, which of course you can no longer see.  Highlighted the sword scabbard, the red bits, and pouch on the belt.  I did the horns as well, although you can't even tell in this picture, which tells me I need to restore some contrast.

Originally I thought the wolf pelt was just sitting on his shoulders with a different fur cloak, but after studying it some more, I decided the whole thing should be the wolf pelt (it was a rather large wolf...). So I based in the rest of the pelt, glued it on, then used some paste for a bit of gap filling.  After it's dry, I'll do another layer, and then hopefully I can get a bit of texture on it to line up with the rest of the cloak.

Okay, I think I'm calling Kord done for me. There are things that I'm not thrilled with but I know what I did wrong for the most part. If I squint, I think he looks pretty great.  ::P:

Terrible lighting is terrible and obviously the base isn't done; I'm still contemplating basing....maybe some time this weekend....or maybe not until next weekend when I can go to hobby lobby and pick up a few things.

Now for my progess.  I have left the base on for handling ans it is unpainted white as I will be cutting it off later.   Mostly done.. re-atached the cape and I now need to fill the gap and rework the cloak a bit.  Then do some touch ups.  The pictures always seem to show areas I missed no matter how hard i look for them :grr:
