After 7 days, I'm back to my pre-July 4 + Birthday celebrations weight. Today is officially tied as the lowest I have ever weighed (178.8 lbs). If I can continue to lose, this week will average out  to be a new lowest average weight ever.

This week also represents a new landmark in my running progress - I clocked the half marathon I ran back in March at approaching 4.4-4.5 mph (13:33 Min/Mi). Sunday I clocked 13.0 miles at 5.0 mph (12:00 min/mi). While my ultimate goal is to go even faster still (5.3-5.4 mph) this is a tremendous improvement in 3 months!

It's not my "official" weigh in day, but this morning I was within a pound of my first interim goal. So on Friday I'm thinking I'll have some good news to report. :)

Edited to add: I can really notice the difference in the mirror and when I pinch the ol' love handles now. Will have to remember to get up early on Friday to take some in progress pictures.

Today I had another first - 4 of the last 5 weigh-ins I have had a body fat % of <15.0%. My goal is 10%, back in February I was averaging 19.1%.

ALSO this week 3 of the last 5 weigh-ins have been ≥180.0 lbs. This is the first time I have managed to maintain that - thus far both of my times I've dipped under 180 I've gone back up. I'm hoping this bodes well and I can get to ~175 by End of Month.

My weight loss goal is much more body fat % than weight, because my lean body mass keeps going up as I add muscle. Three months ago I calculated that 10% body fat would be 165 lbs. Currently, the calculations suggest that 10% body fat will hit right around 170 lbs...

Note that every indicator I can find is that >20% body fat is "healthy" for an adult male, and 9%-12% is "athletic".

I have been doing some thinking over the past couple days and have been considering altering my goals.  Initially I was just concerned with my weight.  Now I'm thinking that my initial goal may be a bit low and resetting it to about 160 and focusing on body composition once I get to that weight, probably about 12~15% body fat maybe a little lower.  160 though kind of worries me from a maintenance point of view as it's in the upper end of the commonly recommended ideal weight ranges.  Upside though is that where I am in my journey I have plenty of time to consider it.

Weekly check-in day for me:

Weight: 175.8 lbs (down 3.6 from last weigh-in three weeks ago, total loss 13.5 lbs)

Neck: 16" (no change)

Waist: 39" (no change)

BMI: 26 (down .5 from last weigh-in)

Body fat: 25% (no change from last time)

I find it interesting that my waist and neck haven't really changed at all over the last couple check-ins.  I'm understanding the frustration a lot of soldiers I've known over the years have had with getting their body fat percentage down (I'm using the Army's method for calculating, since I'm familiar with it).  So, even though my body fat percentage hasn't gone down due to that stubborn deposit around my middle I have seen a noticeable decrease in the general size of my belly. Not only that, but the amount of flab I can grab at my love handles is smaller too.

I decided to shake up my workout routine this week.  I was doing recumbent stationary cycle on M/W/F and body weight/physical therapy exercised on T/Th.  I've flipped them to do the strength/therapy on M/W/F.  Then the inner senior NCO that seems to refuse to leave started bawlin' me out for not having a stringent enough routine on those days.  So I did some browsing around the ol' web and found a workout that looked interesting and tried it today.  It was a good workout, had my HR up and sweat pouring fairly quickly, and most importantly it was enjoyable.  I ended up having to add a few exercises to it though to help fill available time and round-out the muscle groups getting attention.  Need to tweak the kettle bell weights next time, but am looking forward to Friday's session.  (Which blows me away, for 20 years in the Army I only did PT because I had to, now I'm looking forward to it.)

Weighed in today at 231.4 lbs, I am officially under my max Navy weight!

I can't hold a candle to what Bryan has accomplished, but I had to stop working out for a bit due to joint problems. The inflammation is clearing up enough that I can start up again in the fall. Wish I had time for MMA training again. Martial arts is a bucket list item for me, lol.

Next goal: retirement weight @219 lbs

Ideal weight: 190 lbs
