we were discussing the merits over locking an announcement thread versus leaving it unlocked.

the concern is that a locked thread might disappear for people.

I suspect it is a specific setting that the user has to toggle.

It is currently just before 5pm central on Friday.

I'm setting up the auto lock for 8pm central tonight.

please look for the thread between then and noon-ish tomorrow while it is locked.

when locked, you can't reply in it, but you should be able to view it.

I'll unlock around noon, and we can get you to chime in if you can see it or not, please.

I would appreciate the assistance with this strange request of mine.

Thanks bunches!

I did not notice it when I first checked this morning, it was probably lower on the list of topics for me then, and I was sleepy.  Now that people are commenting it's near the top of the list and easy for me to spot.  This is probably because I always use the "View New Content" button, and it bumps busy threads higher on the list.

At 8am EST this morning, it was viewable in the "New Threads" column of the front page. It was visible in the "Off Topic" section as well. It took me a minute to find because I forgot that it was pinned, so I freaked a bit thinking I was one of the people with the settings you described.
