I am just in awe struck wonderment at the pieces you have recently created. I go back and look at the amazing details. I am glad you are able to continue this journey. I can not wait to see what you come up. Its all excellent work. All the details I noticed leave me with great ideas. It is inspiring to see your scale works of art. The buildings tell a story and leave you wondering what is happening. Cheers Zoot.

Hi Catdancer! Mind if I ask a few questions?

You've shown doing this with timber. Do you use craft paints, acrylics, to paint them? Or hobby paint? What method do you use for sealing the wood before painting (if any)? I've found wood soaks up an incredible amount of paint, just like cardboard.

How do you do those incredible posters? Print them and then weather the paper? Something else?

Do you use an airbrush for all those big surfaces?

Sorry for the avalanche of questions!

You just reach new heights in pure COOL. That is a WONDERFULLY imaginative & detailed piece. I love the chute it looks like could actually work. FANTASTIC WORK!

As always...thank you malefactus for your comment(s) and feedback...I think that I have covered the basic essentials for the outpost...I have provided it with (a vehicle fueling piece, a drinking water tank, a coal bin for their stoves, a gun shop shanty and a house of joy)...as with most such places...they have to scavenge for their food (so there is no general food store)...What am I missing?

Paul (Catdancer)

Repair shop/junk repurposer.

Tradesman of some sort (mechanic would give options for a cluttered side yard)

Merchants...although I use this term loosely. In small towns in the middle east through to India "merchants" display all sorts of odds and sods outside their stores.

Animal pen. Even if it isn't communal, it would be close to town (although hopefully on the down-wind side).

Hi Willen;

In my painting of timber (wood)...I use acrylic artist paints...artist inks to stain...and pastel chalk for weathering. I actually like that the wood absorbs the paints & inks (gives me a deep texture)!

The posters are sized...printed...and depending upon where I use them and how weathered I want them to look...placed on a damp cloth to absorb moisture...tacked in place with white glue...tucked into brick or wooden plank folds and let dry...final weathering is done with a tiny brush and alcohol!

I do not have an airbrush...never had one...never used one...all my surfaces (large or small) are hand brush painted!

Hi hosercanadian;

Thank you for your reply and suggestions...I am building a tabletop wargame shanty outpost as a commission project...so there is no real need for tradesmen and/or merchants...as is the case for any type of animal pens...they wanted buildings, structures and walls that figures can hide in and/or behind.

NOTE...This brings to a close the end of (phase #1) of this commission project! The next phase will be started when the model club has raised the required funds for the project.

My thanks go out to all the members who have followed this project from start to finish...I will post a couple of photos of the overall project when I have all the pieces mounted on their bases and all detail work is finished.

That is a SPLENDIDLY detailed conclusion to a WONDERFUL project. I'll be looking forward to the group photos. MASTERFULLY WELL DONE!

Thank you malefactus! It was my pleasure to bring you and the others who followed this project...these photos. I have greatly appreciated the comments and feedback from you and all the others. The comments and feedback were a great inspiration as I worked on these pieces...but I am glad that this phase has come to an end...I am going to take a little time off and work on something else for a change of pace.
