This will be my thread for my entries for the painting competition at Gateway at the end of the month. Those of you who were looking at my consolidated WIP know that I did two entries, a fantasy large and a fantasy single, for Gamex at the end of May. Gateway is part of the same convention circuit as Gamex and I plan on entering the same categories. My single entry is the Female Anti-Paladin with Sword and Shield from Darksword. This was the first miniature I got from them and I cannot wait to start on her. For now she is primed and ready to go. My large entry is Reaper's Frost Giant Jarl, Boerogg Blackrime. He is prepped and ready to as well. As some of you know I was not sure what shape base to use for him and after not being able to locate a hexagon, I went with the oval. I also decided to do a simple rock and snow base.

Started base coating the Darksword miniature, did her eyes, and painted the base black. I have to say I love my Kolinsky spotter from Rosemary and Co, it was perfect for doing eyes.

I like that DS figure a lot. The base is going to look fantastic, I can tell that already. Can't wait to see more of these WIPs!

Got most of the base coating done on the Anti-Paladin. I can see a few leather areas that need another layer or two of brown and I plan on doing the little details later. Her hair looks shiny due to the paint not being completely dry.

I like where this is going!

*grabs some popcorn and sits back to watch*

is that buttered popcorn...."settles in to to watch and steals some popcorn."

Better be movie theater style. *steals a piece, wipes hand on towel, and starts painting again*

Ok I have put down the first layer of metallics. What do you guys think?

I am at the point that I have reached with every miniature where I am second guessing my color choices. I know it will look better once I begin shading and highlighting, especially since her skin tone is way darker now then it will be at the end. Until then I need to keep faith that the harmonic color scheme will work.

I am liking the purplish metals very much..  watch the "butter" fingers though they can make a mess of any paint job!   (wipes hands on seat...see no butter)

I have started on the giant. I started by applying some thinned brown liner to get an idea of the details. Now I have started on the base coats but as you can see I still have some work to do.

Base coats are done for the most part and I have started on the bone details. They have a few more layers to go and need to be cleaned up.

My first time posting to this forum, please let me know if I misstep :p

Reaper Bones Black: 44002 Rock Troll

I added a more rocky base using rock and some plastic crystals carved from leftover plastic sprue. Also added some more crystals to his elbows and side. The elbows were just because I thought it would make it look more menacing but the one on his side was because of a huge hole leftover from the moulding process. To take care of assembly lines I used some of the rock I cracked apart for the base.

I still have the belt and pouch to do, along with the base and some smoothing if blends in his muscles.

      Feedback and CC most welcome!!!

I got this mini in the Mini Painting 101 class at ReaperCon.  This was our first ReaperCon - my wife and I took the class together.  I’d painted about a dozen minis (badly) for D&D before going to RC.

I like this sculpt, and I wanted to work on improving my basic painting skills.  I decided to keep working on her to see how far I can go.

I’ve spent an embarrassingly large amount of time on her already.  I do feel like I’m learning a lot though and getting better at controlling my brush and getting paint consistency right.

I broke out one of the good brushes I had bought and not touched - a da Vinci Maestro.  I still feel unworthy to use it but maybe it will help me get better.

I’ve done a lot of work on the red armor already, but still need to do some more highlighting.  I think I might have overdone the highlights on the green ropes in some places.  I was planning to glaze them down and redo a bit smaller.

Thanks for taking a look.  I would greatly appreciate any feedback or tips on what I can improve on the parts I’ve worked on already.

Here she is so far - she looks a lot better if you squint.

So the reason I had spare blackstar rifles was that I decided a proper pirate captain needs a sword.

So I built this guy with the bones 3 weapon pack, and the spare head off of the bones 4 bulldog armor.

His sword has much fire, and his reactor a distressing blue glow.

Hi all.  I just finished the Colossal Skeleton that I've had for a couple years now.  For the longest time I was holding off because I was afraid of doing a mini so much bigger than all the rest.  I've gotten some nice reviews on some of my recent stuff so I decided to take the plunge and try my hand at my first large figure.  I have several sets much larger than even this guy so I had to start somewhere.  The closeup pics show how much work I did on the fur for the back lioncloth as well as the wood grain lines I painted on the planks on his right thigh.  I based him on a wooden plaque my mom was getting rid of that I painted black.  I was doing more work on the base, it was supposed to have some more colours in it but I messed up on the drybrushing so I called it finished and hid the mistake with some static grass .  So far one friend has told me the blue rags pull him out of the mini because they look too new and blue while the rest of him is old and rotted.  Maybe he could do with some more staining on the blue but it doesn't bother me much.  Anyways, enough preamble, I hope you all like him enough as my first large mini!

Edit: forgot to apologize for the make-believe "lightbox" photos, but that's how it goes.
