Stuff for GenCon Events(D&D Minis)

Recommended Posts

So, GenCon is upon us once more and I'm going. As usual, I have been asked to Repaint a few D&D Minis for DDM Guild  events there. So, I present my PlastiCrack Prize Support!

A fairly simple Repaint of the Large Gold Dragon. Was the first done so it got a bit of dust on it. I have cleaned that up now.

The Horned Devil was originally a dull Gray and black. I've fixed that! Also, added a bit of Freehand work making Tattoos on his Wings and Tail.

The Gorgon was completely Steel colored for the stock paint job. I changed that quickly! Used Gamma Shielding Gold and Some steel colored paint for the metals and did a light wash of brown.

The Standardbearer had one color of armor, dark steel originally. I could see several Details that were not accented well. I improved that. I did have trouble taking pics of some of those details due to the pose. My Camera want to focus on the sword or the flag when I wanted it to focus on the face or Chestplate. In the end I barely got three pictures to come out good.

And the Masterwork! The Berserk Flesh Golem was one of those D&D Minis that didn't look like the average Pre-Painted hordes. Or it would with a Decent Paint Job:P There are a LOT of Details on this sucker! And he looks so much better than before!! I had to get a bit of help with this one, though. I was having trouble with Washes due to this things wealth of details and the fact that I had not used a Blue wash on a non-blue background before. The Owner of my FLGS, Gatehouse Games, kindly vollunteered to give me some lessons after I nearly ruined this guy the first time with that Blue Wash! Tim Gatehouse demonstrated the technique on the Pants and Left Arm, then I finished the rest. Thanks to Tim's help, I got done in time.

I am taking am attempt at Ral Partha's Ghost dragon.  The box art does him in white but I wanted something different. I wanted to play with color making him red from the top down, blue from the bottom up but making the transition acceptably smooth when liked at from the side..Ill say up front this is not the easiest dragon to work with.  Have I gone wrong?  I would like some opinions on the roughed out paint scheme as well as some suggestions for the eye and mouth color.  Originally I was considering him for a playful ghost but more and more he is looking like more nightmare than daydream

And sorry for the pictures, I just snapped them off my (rather messy) paint station

Now that my Bones 4 order is here, my backwards brain decided it's finally time to paint the fire dragon I've had in my box of shame for a year and a half! I don't think I can claim that I'm "new to painting" anymore, but this is my first dragon and by far the biggest mini I've attempted thus far. In order to actually paint more things I like instead of saving them until I've practiced or become good enough to attempt them, I'm trying to adopt the mentality of trying at least one new technique with every mini I paint. Hopefully this will get me out of my comfort zone and into some new styles and skills.

The focus of this guy is going to be blending, both wet and feathering. I'm still getting used to the process of documenting my WIPs, so if anybody has suggestions or requests (pics of my working palette, color recipes, what have you) please let me know. Lots of pics beyond the spoiler!

Here is the Wyvern from the Bones 4 Core set. I really like the built-in scenic base - another nice sculpt from the set.

This is the Rat Ogre from the Bones 4 Core set (#12). It is a beautiful sculpt and casting.

The base is a piece of cork sheet gouged out with the muck made from the bits. The bubbles are drops of super glue. The water is just painted and given a gloss coat.

WiP on this too cute baby dragon from bones 4. One of the reasons for my to back. The kids each pick one, and choose their own coulor. The dragon fly is magnetized, and i'm gonna put more magnetes on some other dragons so the dragon fly can hope from 1 to an other baby dragon.
      ... keep u posted.
