A Step too far...

it looks okay in pics, here, but in hand it looked awful. Just way too much contrast too soon. I'm also not a fan of how it turned out on the left.

I haven't worked on the armor in a while either. Last week's update:

This past weekend:

I added a coat of glaze of the freak flex green, because it has an olivey tint. I'm pretty happy with how it looks in hand, and how it photographs. I managed to get the armor at the back of the neck a bit green, so I'll have to touch that up. Unless anybody sees some  glaring issues they want to point out, I'm going to do some touchups on the highlights and call the skin done.

I did a little bit of shading on the armor - a coat of VGC sombre grey, which has a bit of a blue to it. I'm liking how it looks, though it seems to coat quite thin.

I'm a big fan of the tupperware full of playdoh as background.

Whoa I did some work on the orc today. There's still hope I finish this before the year's out

photos later today.

I mostly tried to push the contrast on the metal.

Now I have cloth and leather and the chainmail still left to do. I'm going to push through, though, because I'd like to move on to something else.

This morning working on leathers and cloth. -see next post

I went super simple and just did my supple leather based on bone/palomino gold for the tunic/gloves and oiled leather for boots belt.

I need to do maybe a few touchups on the highlights and a bit on the chainmail tomorrow then it's basing and done.

the great benefit of a black and white photo is that it gives you an idea as to how the whole

mini is going to be viewed.  Rich darks, solid mid-tones, and popping highlights will make your mini

look great.  Be aware.. not every mini needs that.  I really am enjoying your work on this lexomatic !

(hope you recovered from the disaster) !

So this was from this morning - unfortunately it was incredibly rainy here all day, and I don't have great light in my work space. It doesn't look like the cloth picked up too well. I'll have to see how it looks tomorrow. To be honest I don't see much difference outside of the sword.

I actually did some more tonight, because I got all mad from doing dishes and wanted to chill out.

I mixed up a fun purple-brown glaze for the metal. I ended up putting it on everything then taking a dry brush to pick it up quick. I think it looks good, and ties things together well, but who knows. I intend to redo highlights tomorrow.

I keep forgetting that at some point this morning the pin fell out of the mini. It's made painting and also photographing more difficult. These ones have a bit of lean in them, which might explain some of the shadows.

On another note. I tried making some custom storage trays for a nice Muji storage thing (and standard trays are just a weird fit). I've discovered that the time involved and the not particularly reduced cost when all's said & done. The bonus is that I have lots of foam board for building stuff... I'm just not sure what yet (7.5" x30").

I wouldn't share this if I didn't have a non-blurry picture later in the post

And here's the base

Cork and base

Because of the leg spread it needs more surface to fit in the base so I need to cut down the edge

Golden pumice medium with a bit of brown craft paint for ground

post-12970-0-76045900-1435500445.jpg

Here's a teaser. I'll do some shading and highlighting of the ground and put a bit of cover down and then seal it all

That's it before show off.
