The core set is enough to set up models in a variety of units with different combinations of function. When I get home I could post some examples using CAV2, but until the CAV:SO document is made available I don't know the specifics on force organization for that game.

I believe that CAVBOSS has said in other places that in CAV:SO factions are even more restricted than before.  Each faction can only use its CAVs.  Only Pirates and Mercs can use models from different factions.

-- You can play any faction you want, with any models you want if that is how you want to play. You cannot use faction doctrines (perks) if you build a force group with models from more than one faction. Of course you can choose to ignore that rule if that is how your group wants to play.

I really dig that Specter.

Also, question. Is there any reason not to cut the integral base off and re-base on something that the CAV doesn't overhang? I realize that would kill Battletech compatibility but at this point I would be more likely to convert BT over to CAV rather than the other way around.

CAVBoss, Thanks for the comparison picture. That's really helpfull, especially in figuring size compatibility for other games.

I am a bit concerned about the KS though, the trend is not encouraging. http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/1513061270/reaper-miniatures-cav-strike-operations/#chart-daily

Still, the KS is fully funded, so I guess it could be considered a success already.

I am tempted to switch from the Ace (early bird) level to the Elite level just so all of the CAV's are the same color and so that the matching pegs issues can be taken care of.

This of course is counter balanced by wanting to get all the things right now.

Another thought is that these arriving at the same time (approx.) as Bones II may be two much for my tiny mortal mind to withstand, lol.

AS far as basing, you can place the model on any type of base you want. The rules use a hex base as the default but you can adjust accordingly. The main place it comes into effect is when closing for Close Assault. In order to Close Assault, some part of the base must be within 1" of the others models base to use this type of combat. This qualifies for "base 2 base" contact.

The Gnomic is sized accordingly and will be the same size as the metal one. As far as the ones that get adjusted, I haven't thought that far ahead. I would like them too, but we will see if it can fit into the schedule later on.

The kickstarter video and description indicated that bases were included for all the models, and the video showed a handful of separate bases being added to the pile. I assumed that this meant that any basing integral to the model was merely for structural stability and that separate, standard hexagonal CAV bases would be included for every model. This is the way is was done with the metal models.

But maybe my misunderstanding of this is wrong. Anybody?

Good to know, I can keep my metal Gnomic in the cart now.
