Paint sets go next summer.  We do not have sufficient time between when pledges are locked (so we know how many to make) and shipping to make them.

Understandable.  At least I know not to add the paint sets to my pledge, I'll just buy them direct from Reaper.

I think about half of those paints aren't currently available.

That's too bad, it would be nice to have the colors available when the miniatures are. Looks like the core set includes CAVs for the Ritterlich, Templar, Malvernian and Rach factions, but only Ritterlich Blue and Templar Blue are currently available colors.

I'll just have to pick something close for the Malvernian Purple and Rach Red, then.  I'm not waiting until next year to start painting those CAVs, and once I start painting them in one color, I'm not going to change once the new colors are released.

The stuff about the vehicle's "paint" changing color was never anything official, but when it was discussed, it was w/the prerequisite that it was a huge power drain on the CAV, so it was something that could only be done for short periods of time. The rest of the time the CAV would appear in its regular color scheme, whatever that was.  CAV 1.5 had a Stealth Action to reflect this, but it never got carried over to CAV 2.

Oddly, the CAV 2 rulebook has a pic of what a stealthed CAV might look like, on pg 28.

The beauty of how CAV paint works (via the fluff) is it changes based on what the pilot programs.  Having slight variation in scheme looks better on the battle field anyway.

From a painter point of view, when I see an army with a couple different shades of their basic color, I don't think "variations in age or applicaiton in the field" what I think is "looks like two different people painted this army, and didn't coordinate the paints they used".  ::P:

For me, I like the idea of a uniform paint scheme to identify one faction from the other, and to tie all the units of each faction together.  So, while it would be nice to have an offical Rach Red to use, I at least know what it should look like so finding something close will be good enough for me.

The stealth technique seems to work well as I'm looking at pg.28 of the CAV 2 ver 1.1 book and don't see the CAV! :-D
