I think this kind of stand off is a little hard to pull off. I think one character should be the focus on each side. So say both the outlaws are staring down the NOVA Sgt while the perhaps the Sgt and one trooper stare down one of the outlaws and the remaining trooper takes on the last outlaw. You must direct the viewer to the center of attention. Lets say our Alien Ellen Stone is the center of attention. I would have her standing over the crack as that's a line leading to her. The Sgt and one trooper are focused on her. While the other outlaw is behind and to one side of her with a clear shot to the last trooper who is staring him down. Guns also and eyes all provide leading lines but using the base to provide one as well will help sell it better.
