CAV-SO Model Distribution

Recommended Posts

I was looking at the CAV-SO Pledge Manager today, and notice that each of the miniatures is listed as being for a specific faction.  I'm pretty ignorant of the rules and background for CAV so I was wondering how flexible these assignments are?

The reason I ask is, if they are fixed, then the distribution of miniatures in the basic pledge is very uneven.  Adding up the 32 core miniatures plus the current freebies, the Empire of Malvernis gets twice as many CAVs as anyone else (full half the original 32), while the Grand Order and United Terran Federation are way behind with only 4 and 2 CAVs, respectivly.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun but I was think about how to split up the miniatures into different playable forces, so I was wondering if the Razor, for example, can be used by anyone or only the Empire of Malvernis as listed?  How much flexibility is there in creating faction forces in the game?

Thanks!

Also, any model can be used with any faction. However, there are faction doctrines (perks if you will) that you can only use if your entire force is made of that factions models. That is the official line. Obviously what you and your buddies decide to do on your table is up to you.

Even worse, there are thus far 0 Adon/AEC models unlocked or even revealed.

I've seen conflicting information going around regarding which models can be used with which factions--it seems to me, though, that if you can't use the faction doctrine then you're not really playing that faction, you're playing a mercenary force (from the perspective of the rules, obviously you can call said force whatever you want to).

This wouldn't have been a problem in CAV 2, where most of the KS Core models (Talon Games models excluded, obviously) are Open Market and available to all factions (at least the Spectre, Kahn, Assassin, and Talon going from memory).

All of the unlocked pieces are either Terran or Rach, which begins to balance at least those out.

My initial review just covered the core 32 plus the freebies already unlocked for the basic pledge.  I'm sure I'll be adding more of the unlocked Extras but I wanted to get a better handle on how forces were organzied before trying to pick out which and how many Extras I want.

Thanks for that info!  I'd probably want to field a "pure" force then, so that I can take advantage of those faction-specific benefits.  I'll probably end up using these minis for some demos to try and build some local interest in CAV, so I'd like to stick to the "offical" rules if at all possible.

I understand that Reaper was planning on releasing a PDF of the new rules at some point prior to the release of the hardcover rulebook?  Has there been any recent info on a possible release date for this PDF?  Any chance we'll be able to get it before we make our final selections for the Pledge Manager?

Thanks!

The rules are still being edited and plugged into the "book format" by the book people.  This is something that absolutely cannot be rushed as a bad book (especially a rules set) can be devastating to a game release.

EDIT:  I should point out, however, that this isn't a game release.  It's a fundraiser to convert metal into plastic.  The game is coming out no matter what happens.

Another stretch goal...and still no Adon. I'm feeling seriously let down, here.

Also, clarification from CAVBOSS regarding factions and model availability:

All factions DO NOT have available any model. The fluff of the game and the Force Group construction rules is centered around you using a set faction and playing with the models assigned to it. Now if you want to ignore the fluff/rules and just pick anything, you can. If you want to play a Independent such as a mercenary company and such, you can pick from any models you wish, but you get no bonus (faction doctrine) for doing so other then the benefit of getting to pick whatever you want.

I'm really happy on how well the KickStarter is doing!  I hope that the pdf rule book comes out before it is over.  The reason being is that I'd love to know what the standard size game is and how many models would be used.

Like any of my smaller games (no judgement with this comment, just that some games are "larger" with my local gaming community), I tend to make sure I have enough for a few people to play.  If I had an idea of composition starter forces for each of the factions, it would go a long way for me to get this done.

Any help would be appreciated :;):

I feel ya a bit Vil. Not in quite the same boat but most of the recent CAVs are kinda so so for me. I want my Hawk VI, Butchers, Duelists, Mantis', and Knights.

I would love to see any of those, they're all awesome models. Even some Chieftains or the Jaguar...something good-looking that's actually useful in-game. Seriously, who needs 4 Cougars?

Actually, I need four Cougars to round out my Ritterlich force.

MiniCannuck: the core set has more than enough models to make two forces for a decent sized game. They'd probably have to be mercenary forces due to the mix of factions.

Yeah to me it's not the usefulness of the model just the aesthetics. I've just never cared much for the Archer or Katana. I do like the Despots and Dingos.

I have me a bit of a dubious, largely because I'm not certain these will, in fact, work for anybody. But. Still.. the concept is pretty damn cool.

"Tilt Five is a whole new way to play games, in Augmented Reality (AR), with freaking holograms!
When you slip on the Tilt Five glasses and look at the game board, a vibrant 3D world opens up to you.  Suddenly chasms seem to drop infinitely into your table, and game characters and monsters spring up from the game board.  This is gaming unlike anything you've experienced before.
"When we started designing the Tilt Five system our focus wasn't on the technology for technology's sake.  We wanted to provide an amazing gaming experience that blends the things you love about video games and board games. And we wanted it to be just as fun when playing solo, together with your friends, or even when you're apart."  Jeri Ellsworth, Co-Founder & CEO "

I backed the Bones 5 kickstarter and was informed that my wave (8) will be shipped out sometime in April. Do I have an option when it comes to how it will be shipped to me?
I am having difficulty with mail at the moment. My monthly Reaper mini order was stolen last November and I have been wary about receiving packages at my address since. If the kickstarter package can be delivered via UPS, I can have it held at a contact point. If not, I'll have to put in a Hold Mail request to my local USPS, get a PO box or hope that I'm home when the package arrives. I live in an apartment building with no security and no one I can trust to leave my packages with. I have considered getting my mail delivered to my workplace, but would rather not get them involved.

Anyone else have any problems receiving their mail and what kind of solutions can you offer.
