I've been missing having a WIP, so I'm having another go at one.

This time though, I'm just picking one of the minis on my desk to chronicle, this guy:-

"Hello there, I'm peculiar looking"

Had to break out the green stuff to fill his gaps, first time I've done it and I think I did an okay job.

Couldn't work out how to hold him while painting, so I'm getting him based first.

However. He's a bit too big for his base, plus sticking to my Kingdom Death theme of having a statue head on the base somewhere really didn't help, but I got something cobbled together:-

But then, disaster!

When I started gluing the cork on, I couldn't get anything back in place, so I re-worked it on the fly:-

Just waiting for the green stuff to dry, then it's sand time!

Thanks, its nice to be WIPing again.     I know that feeling, I will get my Storm Knight ...one day.   Yeah, I'm trying to tie into that whole 'landscape of faces' thing Kingdom Death goes for,

Gem-encrusted horns part 2: The Re-Jeweling:-     Despite appearances, they're a big improvement over my last attempt (they're just really hard to photograph now they've got the gloss varnish on)

I am sooo jealous!

These sold out before I even read the email saying they were in stock!

I will watch and enjoy none the less.

Nice basing you have going there so far.

I like the statue face, one on all the KD bases you say, interesting.

Yeah, I'm trying to tie into that whole 'landscape of faces' thing Kingdom Death goes for, while doing something a bit more interesting (IMO) than nothing but faces.

I'll probably get really fed up with the idea when I start assembling all their Kickstarter minis, but that's not something I'll need to think about for a long time yet, sadly

Got the basing finished.

After getting the sand on, I attached the Ram and then it got primed, basecoated (Rock and Stone=Stone Grey, Soil=Ruddy Leather, Skull=Bone Yellow, Fern=Grass Green) and washed (a 1:1 mix of Army Painter Strong Tone/Vallejo Green Shade):-

Not too sure if the Ram will stay attached, he's only got about 5 finger-toes spread over 3 hand-feet actually in contact with the base (he was a bit of a pain in the bum to get level).

Once the wash was dry, the base got a good drybrush:-

The stone got several brushes of Stone Grey>Rainy Grey>Aircraft Grey, the soil was Ruddy Leather>Oiled Leather>Yellowed Bone, the skull was Yellowed Bone>Linen White and the Fern was Grass Green>Vallejo Sick Green. The skull and fern then got a wash of Stone Tone.

I've now varnished the base and primed the Ram, next up painting the Ram!

psst....check cmon.

I really want one of these but $40 is too much for me to spend on a mini that I'm not certain I can do any justice to. I'm really looking forward to seeing this painted up!!!

You're at stage 1, next comes stage 2 where you buy them but put them aside until you feel you're skilled enough to paint them.

I'm at stage 3, you still don't feel like you're good enough to work on them but it seems a waste not to try.

:(

I'll live through you and watch you be awesome!! My mother adores this sculpt BTW

Yes, the pin-up collection is very nice but rather expensive!

Progress:-

Hmm... I was sure I resized those to be all the same size.

Anyways, made a start on the skin with a basecoat of 1:1 Vallejo Dwarf Skin/Vallejo Bronze Skintone, it had this really weird consistency where it was  thick, gloopy and hard to work with but also didn't cover particularly well, so it took a while to get a nice solid layer.

Then I shaded it with a nice coat of Vallejo Fleshtone Shade.

Next up, eyes and stuff! Gotta Google me some sheep's eyes.

Separating a bee from its honey is always a risky prospect, but especially when they are giant, man-eating Titan Bees.
However, when smeared with a concoction made with the pulped remains of it's larva, a person is temporarily rendered virtually invisible to the Bees. And so the Bug Thief started a thriving business stealing bee babies to make into potions, but how did she survive going into the hive in the first place? That's a mystery to be solved another day.

Had a lot of fun painting this one, her bee striped fur thingy didn't come out like I hoped (and she's stuck with rather wonky eyes) but I think she ended up looking fairly decent overall.

While the title may sound like a part of a weird children's book series, it's actually a trio of Kingdom Death Pin-ups!

The Bug Thief, her right arm goes across her face so I've left it off for now.

The Swamp Girl. I have to paint her base, paint her and then sandwich the clear bit in between without making a mess.

The Dogpole Mother, the hard part will be painting the Dogpoles so that they actually look like something!

      Starting with the Bug Thief:-

Painted her face and boobs (Rosy Flesh > Flesh Wash > Rosy Flesh > Rosy Flesh/Light Flesh), added a touch of Scarlett Red to the final highlight for her lips and painted her eyes (The left one is a bit buggy, but I'm hoping it'll look better once I paint her hair).

Presenting the Ram Pin-up from Kingdom Death, I imagine this is what quest-giving NPCs look like in that world, sketchy, half-naked dudes who always have one more dubious item for you to fetch before they'll let you have the promised fancy sword.

I'm reasonably happy with how he turned out. He's a little rough in places, where my brush control wasn't quite up to the task, but I don't think I did too bad.
