They only overcharged me by $3.63. I was more unhappy about their shoddy communication and with them not being upfront about shipping during the kickstarter than anything. They also don't respond to PMs or emails, at least in my experience. I tried to deal with my concerns privately but they never got back with any private correspondence. Too bad CMON didn't tell international backers that shipping would be about as much for 4 sets as for 1 set. It looks like a lot of backers went in for one or two sets thinking shipping would be more affordable. If they don't explain that to backers they can't know.

my shipping dropped by a massive $1.36...I thought the original amount ($15.26) was reasonable for 10 sets, so a slight reduction is the best I expected.

I do think that the big issue they have with this project is that their standard shipping partner for the EU is really set up for larger packages, as I'm sure they could get better rates for smaller shipments through other vendors (Deutsche Post shipping from Germany to the UK is only 3.45 EURO for up to 500g)

Damn.  The KS was a great deal.

Just for its and giggles, I just went to see how much it would cost retail to buy just one KS complete set:

20 x 30mm

12 x 40mm

2 x 50 mm

Not even counting the actual bases, just the inserts, that's 66,42€ = $80.86

I think CMoN did a great job handling this software problem. I can certainly understand the frustration of international backers with tiered shipping, but it is what it is and it seems to me the company is doing its best to benefit the customer (including eating the KS cut of refunds). I ended up with a $6 refund for shipping.

what i find odd about the whole thing (apart from the fact they can't get the Australian states correct) is that for the various shipping options they have some very odd weight multiples - to me 500g or 1lb would make sense for multiples (and it's how most postal systems seem to work), yet for EU they've a 2k (4.4lb) multiplier and for NZ they have a 1kg (2.2lb) multiplier. So to make shipping worthwhile for EU backers (excluding Germany) they really need to order 10 sets...I suspect for people wanting fewer sets than that they'd almost be better off getting it shipped to someone Stateside then getting it reshipped as a gift (although VAT and customs charges may spoil that...)

It seems odd at first, but it is likely a factor of the huge discrepancies of cost in shipping to those destinations.  I'm not privy to their maths, but for us, we definitely see hugely different postage costs to Germany than to New Zealand.

EU countries that aren't Germany and the UK do all their postal in 2kg increments now. Just ordered something from the EU and the shipping chart on the companies website was just that. Had to remove 10 cardboard laser etched base inserts from my order as that took me over the 2kg limit and added an extra $20 to my shipping--nothing the store owner could do as that's just what the rates are now.

It may sound silly but it's just a way to offset higher shipping costs by charging more for the lower weights in the same 2kg grouping.

Based on the pictures of the Bones II bases the 30mm inserts will fit inside the raised lip on the 25mm bases, although there may be a gap between the edge of the insert and the lip on the base, and it will likely raise it up a bit.

That said, by the time this fulfills we should already have the Bones II bases, and these inserts are the same diameter as typical 30mm base inserts from other companies (they just don't have the plug depth), so I'll at least be able to do a comparison with those when Bones II arrives...

So this prediction of mine does turn out to be correct - partially - a standard base insert for a 30mm base fits perfectly inside the lipped side of the Bones II 25mm base - with no gap between the edge of the insert and the edge of the base, but you do need to build it up to get rid of a lip. That said, because the CMON bases have the plug I think it will be a matter of shaving them down slightly to fit perfectly...

Photos of 25mm Bones II base with insert for 30mm base (Bombshell minis insert, but should be the same diameter as the CMON inserts) are here (separate) and here (insert inside Bones II base) (sorry about quality, photos taken using my phone...which I discovered has an automatic macro mode when taking these photos)

And we probably should add a 'delayed' tag to this project :-)

February was an especially large fulfilment month for kickstarter projects so I'm only about a third of the way through the list.

However due to production delays from China, fulfilment on this has been delayed. No update yet on how long that might be.
