The test to this idea:

Take the KSs in your "How are you doing on KS list" and apply Vutpakdi's formula.  I'll start:

  1. Bones 1 - Finished, Received.  Shipping 3-6 months late, depending on where you were in the list.  WIBA - Yes. DC15+2-5+5-5+1+1+5-34=-15
  2. Bones 2 - In the wobble time between end of project and estimated ship.  No worries. WIBA - Yes. DC=15+2-5+5+2-5+1+2+5-28=-6

It you KS the concept as a game, it should be some sort of card game. There'd be project creator cards, defining the basic size and organization behind the project. You'd need category cards (Art, Fashion, Food, Games, Technology, etc), each with their own special rules for the other cards you must acquire to complete the project. Different kinds of backer cards to help you reach your funding. Obstacle cards that slow production, cost you backers, or reduce your funding. Product/reward cards that are required to complete fulfillment.

This is totally doable, and I love how completely meta KSing the project would be. :;):

Some other possible penalties (-2 or so each):

* Any sort of tempermental machinery is required (i.e. laser cutters seem to break down all the time). Double if they don't own it already. Triple if they don't know which one they even want to get.

* Seem undecided on material or scale of figures.

* Panic and throw in a bunch of stuff that was originally stretch goals at the halfway point. Not just one or two things but a bunch of things.

* Ever mention "starting a business" rather then just fulfilling the project.

* List nothing relevant in the "Risks and Challenges" and/or don't update the FAQ during the campaign.with common things asked.

* Change the pricing structure significantly during the project so the pledge levels don't match what you are getting (beyond stretch goals).

* Involves a sculptor or production company that seems to be related to delays in other projects.

Hmmm.... Have to tweak the # of backers modifier so that the penalty scales differently after a certain point.

The number of projects out there means that we have a lot of data that could back up a scientific analysis of Kickstarter success.  It would be interesting to see the results you could get out of doing that analysis.  It would not be interesting collecting that data.

If you could weedle it out of KS, that'd be cool. But they've really only *just recently* added a "got it" button to people's profiles, so most old projects likely won't have completion data.
