Basius 2: The Deluxe Stamp Pad Terrain Tile & Basing System

The problem I had with Cmon is that there were no square bases and I would have to use 30mm. With the Mr's Tac-Tiles coming in and the Pop up Terrain, I need the squares to be measured the same and switching from square bases to 30 mm round bases just doesn't work... At least with this system I can make my own bits for basing and make an even larger variety to my bases using 1 stamp. (THEY'RE FREAKING DOUBLE SIDED FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
?!!!)

Happy Seppuku Stamps haven't failed me and are nice and siliconey but it's one long texture. These baking ones are much larger and double sided with different textures that still follow the same theme. Example: The forest one has stumps and branches and large elevated things on one side, but the other side has more leaves, twigs type textures that are more subtle.

Since the Mr immediately fell in love with the mountain one and the cathedral...I'm trying to go in for the 4 pack so I can pick two too. Our tastes tend to balance and mesh. I just hope shipping doesn't kill me. If I go over 150$ then I can't back anything til after christmas. @[email protected] Then I can't back anything because we'll be saving for Rcon.

Mats: I don't know how well..........I can't remember the name of it...white stuff, mix it, sets and dries, I never use it right...what's it called?! IT comes in yellow too........Anyways, I have a lot of this and was wondering how well these bases take this?

Edit: 2 MILLIPUT!!

Ron, in the comments said that sculpey works well with this too. /happy dance

One of these days, I'm going to win the lottery and launch my revolutionary series of RPG terrain with 1.25" squares for the modern mini.

At the very least, I'd build a set for myself. *wistful look*

Hmmm....  I've got a lot of Happy Seppuku stamps, but I've been eyeing that forest Basius one for a while because of the delicate detail.  It would make more sense to mix and match stamps from other manufacturers than to invest in multiple types of basing systems.  (That way lies madness. MADNESS!!)

It does help that Reaper will be churning out round bases in 1" increments soon.  For now I've got the reminder on.

Greenstuff is generally not my preferred putty for basing. I would recommend Apoxie Sculpt, MagiSculpt or Milliput over GS for basing for most uses. I've used them with my Happy Seppeku stamps with no complaints. The three I mentioned are all slightly water soluble, so when you are trying to cover up an integral base, it's easy to smooth the edges with a little water. They also dry hard, so they can be sanded, etched and chipped, so you can easily work them to get hard edges, or add wear and tear and so on. (Which is also true of baked Sculpey.)

Greenstuff (and ProCreate) are great products and probably the best for sculpting fine details or doing full figures, particularly if those are figures that are going to be moulded for production, but they are not the only, best or most cost effective answers for many activities of the home hobbyist.

I've only tried the Sculpey once.  And, since you have to bake the Sculpey, the process will be different: stamp a large piece, bake, trim off a section, and then glue a portion onto a base.

If I have time, I'll run another experiment this weekend.

One day i hope one of these will be done in US currency because the exchange rate just makes this unlikely for me.. $35 for one stamp.. (plus foreign transaction fee).. although I can always drop CMON.. but how much will I use this.. I'm lazy LOL

I think the Hirst Arts analogy is really good for this, especially so in this case since you don't have to find storage for bases while you wait for just the right mini. You can make them on the fly, quick and simple. Want to give a unit a consistent look but still have each base unique, just use five different areas of the surface. I like this much better than having a stack of decorative bases lying around that I may or may not get to, I already have a stack of un-decorated bases (by the hundreds!).

Shipping is going to be the issue for me, its what knocked me out of the first one.

Ooo, I want to support this so bad...

... but the typographer in me is weeping. weeping. In my eyes? That's blood.

Also, the strange words like "doddle" and "kerbs"...    (but I assume those are Britishisms and not just typos)

I'm definitely interested in this, though I wonder about shipping estimates to the US.  I couldn't find a mention of what the pads are actually made out of, so I don't know if it's silicone or something heavier (which would obviously affect shipping).

I couldn't find a mention of what the pads are actually made out of, so I don't know if it's silicone or something heavier (which would obviously affect shipping).

"The Basing Pads are made from 15mm thick, durable, high quality specialist white resin (developed by an excellent UK manufacturer and selected especially for this project) - and made without the use of fillers."

I might as well post the rest of the stuff....

"High levels of detail and crisp edges are impossible to achieve when using rubber moulds to 'stamp' details on putty-covered bases unless you have high quality sculpting tools & possess serious (& speedy) modelling talent to re-sculpt rubber distortions in your stamped base sets.  In addition to this, natural textures such as our Kingswood Forest texture (a realm absolutely covered with creeping vines, leaves and branches) & rock surfaces such as our Mountain Range texture are simply not achievable using rubber stamping, not when trying to achieve the level of sharp detail that (28mm/32mm scale) miniature gamers need.

Detailing can also be much deeper with our resin Basing Pads, and the pads themselves are much more durable than rubber (which dries & cracks with exposure to light & air and degrades quite rapidly with putty use).  Using our resin Basing Pad textures ensure that your bases will look absolutely great - and we feel that this difference in detail is important to gamers & modellers - This is why we use high grade specialist resin in our Basing Pads."

Yeah, I'm in for 6 of them. Hope the shipping isn't too too much. I ended up dropping out of Happy Seppuku in order to go in at the level I wanted for this and I'm looking at my currently backed KS to see what I might drop and/or lower.
