Basius 2: The Deluxe Stamp Pad Terrain Tile & Basing System

The kickstarter page was really full of stuff! Some of it didn't seem needed, really. Why include jokes and stuff before shipping info?

If I had more money I might get into this, but the price point is simply too much. Especially when coupled with the "we may need to top up shipping" part. Perhaps I'll get a specific one for an army when they go retail. The detail looks really nice! Still, at that price I can buy a bunch of resin bases or metal base inserts, or bits, or skeletons to glue down, or..

I dislike that text about how resin is better than silicone. It feels like they need to slam the quality of Happy Seppuku. I have stamped my entire brick stamp in fimo ~10 times, on bases ~30-40 times and a few times in air dry clay. I can't see any wear, really. The only damage any of my stamps has taken was when I managed to get some uncured FIMO into my treasure pile, but I expect that to come off if I let GS cure there a couple of times.

I don't really like the detail stamps either. but I feel that the problem is the sculpting as much as the material TBH. I didn't like the look of the bones one at first, but now I sort of want it for terrain. Hmm, get that stamp, some resin, and just cast the big bones til the stamp breaks? Could be a fun test as well..

Edit: was it so that the HS molds didn't like resin? Better check that if I do something like the above :)

I want to thank Samurai Jack for pointing this one out. I've probably saved boatloads of cash (over the long haul) on this one.

If I know miniatures hobbyists, you'll re-purpose that money for some other toy within a week.

Just think of all the extra Bones you can afford now...

Two more Sculpey experiments complete and pictures of all three experiments sent to the Bakers for use.

Thanks to James Wappel for inspiring me to try using Sculpey with his work using the Happy Seppuku stamps and Sculpey.

As a teaser, here is a picture of the results of experiment #1 (Ruined Imperial Highway):

Looks awesome. Problem is ... I live in Germany and sometimes it's difficult to guess what material goes by what name in another country (for example, I have not yet found the stuff many of you use to get paint off of old miniatures) ... and I have never heard of "sculpey" ... But Milliput is readily available, as is Greenstuff.

They show interaction with greenstuff, and I imagine Miliput would work as easily.

I really, really like the look of these but I keep getting stuck on the price.  From what I remember the kickstarter price is pretty close to what the retail price was last time I checked.  So not really a huge incentive to pledge at a time when my appetite for splurging is low.

Am I mis-remembering?  Generally I need some sort of price incentive to tie up my cash for multiple months on a purchase.

It is actually far more common for Kickstarter prices to be at or even above retail than for it to be a great "discount".  It is less common in the "games" category, but in other categories it happens very frequently.

OK THEN - HERE WE GO...

Thanks to Melodie, we now have a voting location

http://poll.fm/4ynz7

Pop over to this link every time you post a link on a forum about the BASIUS 2 Kickstarter, and every time you tell people about it in other ways too (telling your mum on the phone 200 times in one afternoon doesn't count tho!!!). If you have old votes elsewhere then put them up here sharpish!

EVERY DAY every backer gets 1 vote, and 1 EXTRA vote for each post/link/thing that they manage to do that day. PLEASE do still post up on this comments page where these links are located - so others (including us) can go to them and add to them n stuff... as it ALL helps!!

EACH TIME we pass the goal whoever spots which is the pad unlocked (and shouts it out on the comments page here - so everyone can see) gets a bonus vote for the next pad.

IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING that cheating is pants, and will make us all frown - so no cheating - not even on behalf of someone else - hahaha.

THANKS EVERYONE!!

Here you go, enjoy

@Knight: that picture shows exactly what I used for experiments #2 and #3. For #1, I used a small package of Sculpey III because The small package was older (so I wanted to use it first).

Looks like they've put up pictures of experiments #1 and #3 along with my very short write up of the process at the bottom of the front page.

I imagine any low temperature, polymer clay would also work.

For the original Basius series, the price was £92 for 4 pads shipped to the US. The retail price in the Zinge store was £25 each plus shipping. So, there was some discount, but nothing like 50% off or anything.
