A remembrance of old friends

Recommended Posts

Today would have been Amalor Myrnnyx's 43d birthday.

He was an active member of the boards and an enthusiastic CAV painter.

You can see his posts and many minis here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&search_app=forums&mid=3929&sid=4dc1a07892ec691a57b24104b3298d6f&search_app_filters[forums][searchInKey]=&userMode=content

(If you can't see individual posts, click on "Only posts" on the left menu)

There is a thread of minis in his memory: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/54390-amalor-myrnnyx-painting-memorial-submissions/

I had gotten an idea what I wanted to paint but was unable to get the time to do it. Gen con even provided me the Battletech mechs. I needed. I wanted to have one or several different "people" (some might have had cat ears) painting a canvas (easier to pose than people sitting at a table) and have a small mech with angel wings on the shoulder of each painter.

My idea was to commemorate how he helped so many people with their painting... and in some way, is still with us, today, in thought and in spirit.

WIshing all the best to those who lives he touched.

From The Knights of the Dinner Table.

The Empty Chair

Eulogy for a Gamer

There is an empty chair,

at the table this day.

A hallowed place where,

a friend once played.

The roll of his dice,

my ears long to hear.

Or perhaps it would suffice,

if he should suddenly appear.

With character sheet in hand,

and a bag of Cheeze-doodles to share.

All his friends would stand,

as he sat in the empty chair.

I hear his voice a-callin’,

and it ties my heart in a knot.

For he cries, “Though a comrade has fallen,

You must play for those who cannot.â€

We conquered worlds on the run,

he and I in the name of fun.

And as others may come and go,

I make both both friend and foe.

But what I long for most,

is our past now long a ghost.

A tear shed, and a brush raised in memory. We will ever miss you, old friends, though so long as you are in our hearts, never will you truly be gone.

I noticed his name come up in the birthday list this morning.

Thank you for providing links to his work. It's good to remember.

On March 7, 2014 Long time member and prolific painter, not to mention inspiration and friend to many,Amalor Myrnnyx; passed away.  He was always ready to participate in painting challenges, both here, and in the Battletech community as well. Best known for his mecha pieces, he was also quite keen on painting fantasy and sci-fi figures as well. One of the last things he posted was, in response to another painting challenge, a reminder that the real goal was to have fun. So that is what this is, an opportunity to do something in his memory, to paint something in his memory, and a reminder to have fun.

      Submissions.
Anything from any company will be accepted, so long as it reminds you of our dear friend.
Submissions should all be in by the 7th of September, where they will be gathered and put together in a video format in time for his birthday.

At present, I am thinking of breaking this into two categories. Mecha, and figures. Mecha in this case means CAV's Battlemechs' tanks and aircraft of all sorts, while figures are open to anything else. As there are not going to be prizes, I do not feel this needs to be limited to Reaper only figures. Anything that you think serves as a suitable memorial for James is acceptable.

On that note, I have never run a painting contest like this before, so those with experience, and those willing to serve as judges, if you would be so kind as to PM me on what needs to be done. I would appreciate it.
