cthulhufan
Because they are due out very soon. The staff painters get a crack at painting the new models before they are released to the general public. I think they are due out in the next couple of weeks. As for a discount, that is entirely up to the retailer. most of the Reaper mini's are cheaper at the online store than in most retail stores unless the retailer is having a sale. pae
They haven't been released yet. You'll probably see those in the store sometime this spring. Anne and the other in-house painters get a chance at them long before they are put into production. As for why there's no discount in the Reaper store, I'm not sure. I'm not one to complain. edit: LOL....what cthulhufan said.
CripDyke
hi im new around here anyone knows why in other stores the reaper minis have discount and in the reapermini online store dont have any?? pd. sorry about my bad english, i speak spanish new around here? well! bienvenidos! your spotty english is no less welcome around here than my spotty espanol, so no worries - everything's good. As for finding the minis you want in Reaper's store AND why no discount: The reason is the same. Most people don't find Reaper on-line first. So, like almost any mini company, they depend on local store owners to take a leap of faith and buy Reaper minis and put them on the shelves for customers to see and -hopefully- fall in love with. Reaper can't survive without all those wonderful small stores and their owners. So, to keep goodwill, Reaper has a policy of not putting miniatures up in their on-line store until AFTER the small-stores have a chance to receive their own supplies through their distributors (which can take a couple of weeks for a new release). This way, the collectors that supply regular income to the small stores don't rush to the website the way they would if they knew they could always get things quicker directly. And that's pretty much the reason for no discounts, too. Of course Reaper _could_ beat everyone else in price, but if they did, no small stores would be able to make a profit, and then only the lucky ones that already knew about reaper would be able to buy them - there would be no way to get new business. In fact, Reaper probably wouldn't even HAVE an on-line store except they know that there are (unfortunately) many people all over the world that don't have access to a local store that sells reaper. Can you imagine the sadness if someone learned to love Reaper, then moved and couldn't find a new store to supply their mini addiction? hope that explains the situation. So, basically, we're stuck waiting til other websites start posting them before Reaper will do the same...and even then, we can get the minis cheaper from other places. Me? I recommend: www.discounthobby.com They're great @ customer service & give a good 20% discount. any other questions?
CripDyke
hmph. all the people with concise answers get to post first. Where's the justice in that?

cthulhufan
thanx for the answers im not complaining for the discount just curious (for example discounthobby has 20% off) for me Reapermini.com is the best online store thx KIT and the reaper customer service rules thx JAY I think that companies very name explains why they discount their Reaper mini's. Remember also that online stores can afford to undercut retail stores because they have little to no overhead. Few if-any bills or employees. I personally never buy online even if there is a discount involved. I prefer to give my money to retail stores who put some effort into customer service and who have game space and who have the item I want when I go into the store with a wad of $ in my hand. I hate to wait 2 weeks for something I want NOW. If people stop shopping at retail stores and only shop at online stores because of a discount and all the retail stores go out of business you wont be able to see what you are buying in real life until you get it, which might be very disappointing. A digital pic online is not comparable to holding something in my hand and deciding whether I like it enough to buy it or not, I don't care who disagrees. Please support your local retail gaming store. That is all.
Frankthedm
I don't think pure altruism is the only reason why reaper offwer's no discount. If reaper offered a discount then retail distributers would not be very happy with reaper.
cthulhufan
Frank Take a look at Crocodile Games. All of their mini's are cheaper online than in stores, but you gotta pay shipping, so it evens out really. But I don't see retailers getting upset at the Croc folks. ReaperIvy
Those two miniatures are due to be released in May. The reason you'll occassionally see miniatures painted before their scheduled release is that our distributors request images of releases 4 months in advance of the release, for solicitations to stores, etc. Sometimes we can accommodate this (yay! for sculptors who send in their pieces early/on time!), sometimes a piece makes it in just in time for production. Game Trade Monthly magazine is one place you can see releases in advance, those pictures above headed to them about a week before Anne added them to the gallery. We have one in-house painter, Anne Foerster, and a couple handfuls of painters who we commission from. (Just so's you're not disappoint if you come for a tour, and find only Anne... she'll have been with us a year, this coming April). Hope this helps! Darkrelease
who produces that magazine and do you have a website addy for them so we can get subscriptions Ivy?
ladystorm
Alliance puts out Game Trade. They send it free to the game stores that they distribute to. If you end up paying for your copy you are getting taken. My opinion, which does not reflect the views of Reaper, that's all. cher
Hells_Clown
Someone already mentioned a good reason to buy locally: shipping. I got a GC for Christmas and recently placed an online order. I got 3 figures, two DHL and one Warlord if IIRC. Nothing huge, just normal humanoid types. I don't have the receipt in front of me but I want to say the total was around $18. The shipping was $12! That's using 2nd day air. I went with normal ground and that lowered it to $6. It is also nice to be able to see a figure up close so you have some idea what you're getting yourself into before you buy it. Still, shopping from a comfy chair with a cold beverage in hand is nice. So is knowing they have the figure you want, not having to wait weeks as the store orders it from the distributor only to find out they don't have any in stock. Now having said all that, when's that Desert Ranger dude gonna be available in the OL store? I still gots money on that GC...
Erion
I do all of my "shopping" online, but my purchasing consists of handing an order sheet to the owner at my FLGS and I usually have my stuff in hand no more than 2 days later (next day if I get there before he phones in his Alliance order). I don't pay shipping and special orders get 10% off. I love being less than two hours away from Alliance's East Coast Distribution hub. The only time I have ever ordered anything online from Reaper was Last week, and that's because I needed Stern Kestrelmann for the Speed Painting this weekend and Alliance was out of stock. I threw in a couple Lizard Man army packs for my upcoming Warord Reptus force to maximize the usage of my three-day shipping costs. I've always been an advocate of supporting your local gaming shops. IIRC until very recently Reaper's online store had something like a seven day delay between the time something shipped to distributors and the time it was offered in the online store, primarily to allow the local shops first crack at the new releases.
