[Marvel Superheroes Play-by-Post] Big Darn Heroes: Recruitment/Introduction

Recommended Posts

I'm going to go with the literal on that one. Any power.

ETA: I still think you should run with Glass Cannon.

K, I'm still reading over the rules. This system is completely new to me and I've never done a play by post campaign before. Could you give me a quick run down on how that works? How often are we expected to post for example? Pretty much the basic mechanics of play by post. When were you hoping to have everything up and running. I don't want to slow y'all down.

Edit 2: Reading some more, Body control has the "Raise Lowest Ability" option.  I can use that to raise his endurance so he can move (prof. x type characters are fine in stories, but not so much as PCs IMO); however, the last sentence of the description is "The hero may then choose his next Power from the complete list."  Does that mean everything, or just from the list of body control powers?

My interpretation of that is "You now move to your next power".  So basically this becomes your [A] Body Control power, so now you move to which you have already rolled up as a distance attack.

I am not the GM however so ignore as you see fit.

If it were just the health penalty I might be tempted to, especially if someone in the party had healing, but the movement penalty is literally crippling.  Not only does it make the character essentially immobile in combat, it means they can't participate in any type of pursuit/escape scene on foot.  They can't even chase down an average thief, much less a super-villain!  It also messes with a lot of the powers in the "body control" category I rolled.  For example, imitation (which I'm debating taking) would let him look like Nick Fury, but everyone might get suspicious when he can't even make it down a hallway without taking a breather!

There will be times that I can't post, and there are no scheduled posting times or minimum posting requirements. Just subscribe to the thread in The Playing when it gets started, and post when you can.

The only thing I ask is that you try to check in at least once on the weekends (when the forum is usually slow) since that's when I'll probably be handing out 'session' Karma.

As far as mechanics are concerned, the group should nominate a 'speaker.' The speaker posts the group actions once they're decided on in THIS thread. That way I'm not trying to mediate between people who want to do two different things.

All dice will be rolled on my end, except for special situations and during character generation.

So, I used an online dice roller, and got:

F  09 – Poor - 3

A  77 - Remarkable - 26

S  35 - Good - 8

E  21 - Good - 8
R  89 - Incredible - 36
I   64 – Remarkable - 26

P  86 - Incredible - 36

which averages to a neat 54, which is nice. I <3 it when I get a nice average set of rolls - usually with D100 I roll terribad, so if I get a decent character out of this, I'll be thrilled. So, stats go in the order they were rolled in, right? It looks like I'll be a ranged fighter, if that's the case... I don't have good combat stats at all. Now, as an Altered Human, I can bump one of these up a level, right? Does that mean I can boost an Incredible to an Amazing, or a Good to an Excellent, or is it leveling the number bit up by one?

Raw Rolls:

Roll(1d100)+0:

09,+0

Total:09

Roll(1d100)+0:

77,+0

Total:77

Roll(1d100)+0:

35,+0

Total:35

Roll(1d100)+0:

21,+0

Total:21

Roll(1d100)+0:

89,+0

Total:89

Roll(1d100)+0:

64,+0

Total:64

Roll(1d100)+0:

86,+0

Total:86

So... next I do health & stuff, right? Can someone at least confirm I did this right, first?

It's up by one rank, not one number, so incredible to amazing.

And yes, that looks correct.

I had something else to add to the posting rules bit, but now I can't remember. I'm sure it will come back to me.

Dilvish, I still have one open slot before I start filling the queue. Ub3r hasn't spoken up one way or the other, yet.

I'm already in a few other PbP and I think if I join any more, it's kinda greedy.

Still, it is super heroes.  I'll look at rolling a character and jump in if you need someone.  Or go into the queue if someone drops out.

Well, it's a MAX of six. I have five. I can start once everyone is ready, but I'm not opposed to one more.

Once I start, though, anyone who wants in goes in the queue.

Right, now I remember.

If you have a post that is going to take a long time to type, post 'bookmark' or something like that, then edit that post. Actions occur in time-stamp order, and it's perfectly acceptable to plan the order of your posts in here.

I haven't played a super hero game since an email campain fell apart, used to use the marvel superheroes adventure game card based RPG for it. Been reading through the rules and this forum newbie would love to join in. I'm still new at figuring out how to make a mini look decent, but this I can do. I'll have a char rolled up latter tonight or tomorrow morning.

almost done with my character.  I rolled...interestingly well.  I had a great theme going on until I got to the talents. They don't fit at all.  And then the my dice failed when I rolled for the strength of my powers. They don't fit at all.  Time to brain storm it all to fit into a backstory.  That will have to wait until after I sleep.

Cambion's people hail from an unidentified dimension.  They were a peaceful people until the dimension hopping conquerors know only as the Masters arrived.  .  The Master's enslaved his race and forced them to serve as soldiers in their conquests.  Some of these slave soldiers were experimented on and developed powers and enhanced abilities.  Cambion was one of these.  He was trained to pilot one of the Master's dimension hopping assault craft.

During an assault on another of the Master's enemies, his craft took damage and went through a series of random dimensional shifts.  His vessel crash landed outside Silver City and he was the only survivor.

Cambion looks vaguely human with demonic traits.  His skin is ashen grey with dark orange eyes.  His teeth and fingernails are pointed, and his hair short and spiky.  He has only recently learned English and uses broken syntax.

SGT Wilkinson was transferred to escort detail while the incident underwent investigation.

Aside from being an experimental pilot, Mace Ember enjoys most of the typical thrill seeking activities. He is also an accomplished nun-chuck practitioner. In his travels for his martial arts studies he was granted the knowledge of an ancient chant that allows him to jump great distances.

      Hi people.
Im going to start another PBP.  So far I have interest from @ShadowRaven, @dwarvenranger, @Dilvish the Deliverer, and @Kangaroorex.

We’re going to start the Serpent’s Skull adventure path.  Pathfinder 1e.

All books are in play, but I reserve the right to veto something if it seems too gross/bloated.

Please utilize the Serpent’s Skull Players Guide from the Paizo website.

Abilities: 4d6, reroll all 1’s, drop lowest score, yielding ranges from 2-18 pre mods.

      Avg. Starting gold.

We’ll follow the AP leveling track when possible.

      We’ll have individual initiative.

I hope to get this started soon, so please post those characters.

      -edits-
      House Rules
      1. HP beyond first level.  Roll the hit die.  If the roll is less than”avg” then take avg instead.  Example: Wizard d6.  Rolls a 1.  Gets 4hp instead, before Con mod.
      2. Acrobatics can be used to avoid AOO when standing from prone.
      3. If someone is not responding and action is waiting for them, I’ll send a pm after 24 hours.  If no response 24 hours later, I’ll take over that character to get action rolling again.

Sixth Printing, 2013 and copyright 2009 and on

You can decide if you know each other before the start of the adventure, or are all randomly passing through this small rural town on your way to or from Korvosa.
You have heard rumor that a carnival passes through this town, and have come to investigate and have some fun.
As you mill about the carnival grounds, you can sample delicious food from vendors, view exotic sights or shows, and participate in games of skill and chance.

Let me know what types of things you are interested in, and if/how you know each other.

      Hi everyone.
In light of additional free time, I'd like to start another PBP.
Maybe I'll be able to get prior ones going again, if people are interested.
We'll be doing Murder's Mark.  A Pathfinder Module for four 1st level characters.

      From www.paizo.com
An urban mystery adventure for 1st-level characters.
Everyone in the fishing town of Ilsurian is excited when the legendary Umbra Carnival rolls into town—even if the show is run by members of the much-maligned Varisian ethnic group. With strange and exotic beasts, scandalous performances, games of chance, and all the other fun of a traveling fair, who could resist such an opportunity for entertainment?
Unfortunately for both the town and the circus, however, entertainment isn’t the only opportunity the carnival presents.

Core Rulebook, Advanced Player's Guide, Advanced Race Guide are OK.

      Character Generation:
Attributes: 4d6, reroll all 1's, drop lowest die.  This will yield attribute rolls of 6-18.
      Average Starting Gold for class.
Alignments: LG, NG, CG, LN, TN.

The hope would be that once we finish this one, we'll be able to start another with the same characters...

Is there anyone who might be interested  in a PBP 4e GURPS lite (rules light, no crazy math) portal horror/ mystery modern day adventure.
      1) Gurps 4e is published by Steve Jackson Games, and the free "lite" version of the rules is available online here.
      2) This world is adapted by me from the fiction of Ian Rogers with my own additions.
      3) Character creation rules
NO MAGIC OR SUPER POWERS or cinematic skills/abilities
100 points available up to 50 points in disadvantages and 5 quirks as well. If your character concept is disabled, then there's leeway to go over this, but needs discussion with me first
If you have 4e books or the character creator app, feel free to go for it. Otherwise I will post a list of templates and where they're located that I've vetted to guide you beyond the lite rules.
A skill at 12/13 is considered professional quality. higher gets you a better ability to handle tough situations and improve chance at a critical. Really high skills might get notoriety (could be good or bad).
      Useful guidance http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?p=369148
Also this free pdf condensing skills info should be useful

      4) This is set in Toronto and Ontario Canada primarily. Your character doesn't need to be from there, you just need to have an idea of what you're doing there, and specifically to start, what you're doing in the PATH specifically (this will be how you are all introduced). After reading about the world basics, you will also need to think about any supernatural/ blacklands experience your character has had... if any, and if/how they were affected by it.
      The World Basics
I'm hoping to be able to do a few posts a week, but because I'm new to this, and have limited availability it might be slower than I want. I'm unsure about the number of players - this could work with only a few.
More later. Feel free to ask questions or express interest.
If you have and use a skill that will allow you to obtain info/ achieve goal to advance plot, that will happen. I won't make people roll until something happens or things end.

This site seems to have a decent character generator. There`s step-by-step at the top of the page, and it auto-calculates. Please print to pdf or printscreen or recopy.  so I can review. If you need a template, please let me know. Please set point maximum to 100 (it defaulted to 300 for me).

      Current Characters list:
      1)Magnus Albertson @Dilvish the Deliverer
      2)Sammy @Arkady
      3) Sam Travis @Corsair
      4)TBD @Chaoswolf
      5) Raoul @Colonel Kane

      6) Morgan Faustus @Kangaroorex
There will be a hard cap at 6 players. And maybe only 5 total. We're closing in on being able to start things.
