First OSL attempt: Undertaker and Ghost King WIP

Hopefully one part of a small diorama for the Halloween contest, here's a WIP for the Undertaker. Thus far, he's painted as if lit by moonlight; a much stronger OSL will come from the lantern in a bit. So the back and face are pretty much done, but the front needs much more work.

Never done OSL before, and I think this'll be a pretty ambitious version of OSL. So uh... we'll see how this goes. I did keep the rest of the mini pretty dark, so I can pretty easily bring the illuminated areas up higher than everything else, but still. It'll be real interesting!

OSL is hard, but it looks so good. On the plus side, I am sure yours will look better than mine, so you've got that going for you.

Put down the OSL today. What do you think? I'm pretty proud of it, but I'd really like to get it as good as possible, so if you see problem spots, feel free to point them out. (Also, I swear I didn't set out to make yet another imitation of Cash's; it just sort of happened...)

the OSL looks good and gives me some guidlines to work from when I attempt somethimg similar on my version of it as well.

Alright, Undertaker's done, with the exception of the base, and I whipped up the Ghost King real quick to go with him. I'm not quite as pleased with the OSL on the Ghost, but I can't pin down why that is. Next step is to build a base for these guys. Please let me know if you have any critiques of my OSL (or anything else).

That looks great! I am not sure what is bugging you on the skeleton. He looks good to me. Maybe just keep him close to the lamp on the base. You know what also might look nice is to add some very thinned down blue to some of the dark shadows. Might make your yellow/orange light pop a little more.

I think the skeleton looks pretty good with one caveat - his sword looks weird with neither side lit.

Demihuman: The shadows are actually Nightmare Black, which is very blue, though it may not have shown up so well in pictures on the blue background?

 

fanguad: Hmm, that's a good point. I did run a highlight along the bottom edge, but do you think one of the faces should be highlighted?

Maybe a little osl along the bottom facing.
